Disco, Adventureland, Sunshine, Duplicity and more
The Last Days of Disco (Criterion Collection)
| I just reviewed the hell out of this movie, in more words than I probably should have, but that's just what happens some times. Long story short, I believe this is definitely a film worth owning. It comes with great dialogue, fantastic characters and it's a film I can easily see myself watching over and over again as it never has that "to smart for the room" feel to it, which is a line it could have walked had Stillman tried to get too witty with his words, a trap a film like Juno fell in face first. Click here for my review. | |
Sunshine Cleaning | |
| This is a great movie I recommend all of you at least rent. I'm not sure if it is one you would watch more than once or twice, but it has a pair of great lead performances from Amy Adams and Emily Blunt as well as a great supporting turn by Mary Lynn Rajskub. It ranked #4 on my mid-year top ten and earned a B+ from me earlier this year. | |
Adventureland | |
| I just reviewed this one as well and it impressed me again on Blu-ray just as it had in theaters. It's a bit of a toss-up as to whether you should buy it, but you can get more on that with my review right here. | |
Duplicity | |
| I did a short capsule review of Duplicity right here, and suffice to say, this one does not hold up well to repeat viewings as the constant flashbacks that began to annoy me the first time around really wear on you the second time; once their contribution to the plot is already fully realized. This film, however, is definitely worth a one-time rental. Give it a shot, it's not that bad. | |
House, M.D. – Season Five
| It's a toss-up between which TV series I am going to watch next: House (Season Five) or Heroes (Season Three). Both are sitting on my coffee table staring at me and while "House" is my decided favorite between the two I can't help but want to see what happens on "Heroes". I will say this, though, between the two I would recommend buying "House" long before "Heroes" since I see "Heroes" as a passing diversion, while "House" has some quality work… even if Hugh Laurie as House doesn't get damned annoying by the time you are done watching a complete season. | |
Fighting | |
| Ugh, I wasn't even going to give this one a second glance. I gave the movie a "D" when I reviewed it earlier this year and see no reason to watch it again. | |

House over Heroes, easy. House's fifth season ends with my two favourite eps of the whole series. (Not to over hype it, other people I know were less enthusiastic.)
Bust that Scrubs set open and check out ep 11 (cause it's funny) and then check out the last 6 eps (3 sets of 2 parters). The show 'ends' really strong, especially the finale. The rest of the episodes/story arcs sound like they'll be retconned when the new season starts. So, 11 then 14-19.
Scrubs – Definitely check out Scrubs. Once ABC took a hold of it, I noticed a lot more emotional depth to the story lines. It reminded me of the story telling in the first couple of seasons, which was really nice. Plus, Aziz Ari's intern is hysterical – especially when he listened to The Da Vinci Code Audio Book while on rounds…
The Informers – I wouldn't have too much faith in a movie who's DVD cover art can't correctly label which one of the floating heads is Mickey Rourke and which one is Wynonna Ryder…
Why don't you watch Smallville? That show has definitely had some highs and lows, but if you ever had any interest in the DC universe, I find it really fun to see the classic characters making their debut.
The fifth season of House, to me, has more mediocre/below-average episodes than any other, but the finale is absolutely goddamn brilliant.
@Brandon Daniels:
LOL, I just noticed the snafu on the box art- either they should mess all of it up entirely or have the correct names under the correct heads- they can't have it both ways.
Yeah, Transformers! Coming out the day after my birthday! Totally gonna buy it and love it and by love it I mean weep softly thinking about what a travesty and how much pain that movie cost me in theaters.
