They're Talking about a 'Fraggle Rock' Movie Again
This time the 'Hoodwinked' helmer is taking it on
Back in October of 2006 the Jim Henson Company sent out a press release saying they were set to make a full-length feature about the Fraggles based on the stars of the 1980's television show "Fraggle Rock." Ahmet Zappa was going to write the treatment and things would be underway.
Well, one-and-a-half years later we have no film, but we do have new life in the potential film as The Weinstein Co. has picked up the rights to the live-action musical feature and they have brought on Hoodwinked director Cory Edwards to write and direct.
For those of you that are unfamiliar (what made you click on this headline) the Fraggles are made up of Gogo, Wembley, Mokey, Boober and Red. The are the folks you see in the image in this article and the film will take them outside of their home in Fraggle Rock, where they interact with the strange beings in "outer space" (also known as humans). The show premiered on HBO in 1983, ran five seasons and was broadcast in more than 80 countries. It posted strong sales recently when the first three seasons were released on DVD.
There is no word on when they hope to begin the project, which means this may be a long process and it might be another 18 months before we hear about it again.
