UPDATE: THR is now reporting it has quietly "been shifted until at least December — and might be moved out of 2008 altogether."

Sasha Stone over at Awards Daily points me to a new article at Entertainment Weekly floating a rumor that John Hillcoat's The Road based on Cormac McCarthy's Pulitzer Prize winning novel may in fact be moving to 2009.

Though the Weinstein Co. web site currently lists its release date as Nov. 14, the mini-studio is unable to confirm that its eagerly-awaited Cormac McCarthy adaptation, starring Viggo Mortensen and Charlize Theron, will actually be in theaters that day.

The website EW's Dave Karger points to is the long in place official site that has always labeled the film with a November 14 release date. However, Karger's report seems bleak for the equally bleak apocalyptic flick saying:

Should The Road get pushed, the biggest loser will be Mortensen, who earned a Best Actor nod earlier this year for his phenomenal performance in Eastern Promises. Even though he's got two other films this fall (Appaloosa and the upcoming Nazi drama Good), his best shot at a second consecutive nomination may be off the table…at least for this year.

This isn't surprising, of course, considering we are now less than a month away from the anticipated release date and have not seen a trailer. Is there anyone out there not surprised?

Yeah, this really sucks. This and Max Payne were the only 2 movies for the rest of the year that I was REALLY looking forward to…this gets pushed back and it looks like MP is getting pretty bad reviews… :(

Ok this really ticks me off!!

Besides Benjamin Buttons and The James Bond flick, I was most looking forward to The Road this year!!!

Any idea of which month in 2009 they intend to release it? hope no later than Feb.
