Will this release date stick?

Perhaps today is the day to find out how October will fill out as my earlier statement saying October was a bit of a no man's land is getting stuffed down my throat as The Weinstein Co. and Dimension Films have updated the information on their corporate site listing The Road with an October 16 release date.

A quick check to the press site for the studio still lists the film as a November 2008 release, but considering the folks we are talking about that doesn't come as much of a surprise as this is the latest release from the Weinstein bros. to bounce all over the schedule.

I have been hotly anticipating this release which is directed by John Hillcoat and stars Viggo Mortensen and Kodi Smit-McPhee in the filmed adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's Pulitzer Prize winning novel telling the epic post-apocalyptic tale of a journey taken by a father (Mortensen) and his young son (Smit-McPhee) across a barren landscape that was blasted by an unnamed cataclysm that destroyed civilization and most life on earth. Charlize Theron, Michael Kenneth Williams, Guy Pearce and Robert Duvall also star in smaller roles.

Now we just need a trailer!

This is great news. I clicked on the link for the official site and saw that little clip(coming soon) for the trailer. But the greeband on their says PG-13. Is this the rating?

@Don: No, the film is still not rated and that icon has been there for about two years now. It's just a standard place holder for them.

I would be VERY surprised if it got a PG-13 rating…not that it necessarily NEEDS to be R, as some on IMDB have argued, but considering the subject matter, certain things from the book(babies on spits, quite a bit of nudity, etc.), I would think its very unlikely it will be anything other than R.

This is the best new I've heard all year.

@ckybltz: I completely agree, even though it would most certainly be possible to pull off "The Road" with a PG-13 rating, I find that very, very highly unlikely.

YES! i hope the date does stick

@ckybltz: I disagree, I think this movie does need to be rated R. I heard that some of the more gruesome scenes from the book, which I guess I shouldn't mention, were left out but still a PG-13 rating would render many of the key themes of the book completely hopeless.

    Damn Weinsteins.

Rating does not matter with this film. Will people under 17 see this movie? Does anyone even know about this movie other then us. "Informers" came and went with out a peep, this could do the same.

The father on the paperback looks like Christian Bale, I was suprised to read that the father will be Viggo Mortensen! I happen to like both actors, but Christian Bale seems to add a bit more intensity to his roles. However, can't wait till the movie is out.
