The teaser trailer for The Hunger Games was a joke but a new trailer for the film, which debuted this morning on ABC's Good Morning America, certainly appears to have captured the essence of Suzanne Collins' story, at least up to the point tributes from each district in a dystopian future prepare to do battle until only one remains.

The trailer for The Hunger Games is featured directly below and can be watched in high definition at Apple. Give it a watch and let me know what you think.

The Hunger Games stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci, Donald Sutherland, Wes Bentley, Toby Jones, Amandla Stenberg, Alexander Ludwig, Isabelle Fuhrman, Jacqueline Emerson, Paula Malcomson, Dayo Okeniyi, Jack Quaid, Leven Rambin, Willow Shields and Lenny Kravitz and is set to hit theaters on March 23, 2012.

I always had high hopes for this movie. The cast is amazing, the director is great and, if I'm not mistaken, Suzanne Collins is directly involved in the adaptation, right?

    Can't wait.

    • MajorFilmFan says:

Yes. She was HEAVILY involved in the writing, development, and casting, particuarly of Katniss. BTW, how AMAZING does Jennifer Lawrence look here!!!!!

  2. Antonio A says:

I didn't recognize Stanley Tucci or Elizabeth Banks! It looks OK, it can go either way. I liked that they didn't showed much from the later parts (although I guess future trailers wil spoil everything). For some reason I keep hoping that the movie is a cross between Battle Royale and The Truman Show.

  3. Yaz says:

Looks pretty cool. I knew little about this franchise, but the trailer sold me. Now to keep away from everything else related to it. Sigh. Here we go.

  4. MajorFilmFan says:

HOLY. FUCK!!!! I haven't read the books yet, however, I wanna knock them out over Christmas. This trailer looks AMAZING. Jennifer Lawrence looks like she's gonna KICK ASS here. Until I saw this article, I did not recognize Stanley Tucci in the trailer. He is REALLY not in there for very long. Also, did anyone notice Woody Harelson in the trailer?? I didn't. However, I think he'll be pretty important from what I've read of the books.

  5. Winchester says:

Can't say it did a hell of a lot for me. But I've never read the books. Doesn't look like I will be anytime soon either.

  6. Kristen says:

I'm a huge fan of the book series & it appears they have done justice to the spirit of the story. I also love that they didn't reveal much of the second act of the story. Here's to hoping they keep much of the arena action under wraps until the premiere!! (Crosses fingers that future trailers don't give too much away)

I agree with everyone you said! I think the trailer looks great and I'm hopeful that they will stick to the spirit of the story. I'm a big fan of the books.
Of course, I've seen great trailers before for movies that turned out poorly.
