Snipes Confirmed for 'Expendables 3' as Full Cast and Plot Revealed

expendables-3Production on The Expendables 3 is underway as director Patrick Hughes has begun lensing on location in Bulgaria and at Nu Boyana Studios in Sofia. With the start of production the complete cast was also announced which includes Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Terry Crews and Arnold Schwarzenegger as members of the returning cast with new cast members including Wesley Snipes, Antonio Banderas, Mel Gibson, Harrison Ford, Kellan Lutz, MMA star Ronda Rousey, welterweight boxing champion Victor Ortiz and Glen Powell.

The official synopsis was also revealed:

In The Expendables 3, Barney (Stallone), Christmas (Statham) and the rest of the team comes face-to-face with Conrad Stonebanks (Gibson), who years ago co-founded The Expendables with Barney. Stonebanks subsequently became a ruthless arms trader and someone who Barney was forced to kill… or so he thought. Stonebanks, who eluded death once before, now is making it his mission to end The Expendables -- but Barney has other plans. Barney decides that he has to fight old blood with new blood, and brings in a new era of Expendables team members, recruiting individuals who are younger, faster and more tech-savvy. The latest mission becomes a clash of classic old-school style versus high-tech expertise in the Expendables’ most personal battle yet.

Some of the names rumored included Nicolas Cage, Milla Jovovich and Jackie Chan, but obviously that didn't work out. Either that or they are saving a few surprises for the final product, but knowing the blunt-force trauma of this franchise, I'm not expecting a lot of surprises.

The Expendables 3 will hit theaters on August 15, 2014.

Today's Disposable Cinema/Get Them Clicks update is even more uninteresting than usual. The cast is largely unimpressive and I've never seen or had any desire to see any of the movies in the series. I'll pass.

I do like Snipes but its been a long time since he's done anything like the quality of New Jack City and White Men Can't Jump. As for Expendables 3, one word, Netflix.

  • Winchester

Fast forwarded through the first film and it still sucked. Never seen the second which will probably be the same for this one.

Expendables 1 & 2 are much more fun than recent films like The Last Stand or any action movie of Nicolas Cage within last 6 years, or Bullet to the Head.

Not exactly setting high standards over there!

I ended up really enjoying the second one after feeling the original was a real non-event. I'm not screaming in anticipation for this, but I'll go see it.

I wasn't a big fan of the first one but I really liked Expendables 2. But as much as I like most of the cast, the premise just sounds like a whole lotta "been there, done that". My excitement has dropped on this one.

  • G-Man

As much as I complain sometimes about the lack of plot / intriguing characters, for some of the franchises (particularly this and Fast & Furious) it works for me.

Consider me excited and I'll check this out in theatres.

  • Liam Fogarty

Apparently the crew on the set of the film have been told not to spoil some of the surprise cast members, but that only seems to be faint whispers through the Internet.

  • Bazellis

Who exactly is going to be playing the younger tech savvy can't be any of the names quoted as surely they're far too old as well?

  • Adu

As little excitement as I have (none actually) from this film, I am interested in seeing Snipes & Gibson's roles in this.

  • ashdurdin

So a subplot from the first film is being recycled as the main plot of this one. Eh, not super exited about this, but jamming it full of stars can't hurt.

I will see this. I did enjoy the first two -- especially Stallone and Van Damme 'fighting' each other. I don't ever expect serious drama from these kinds of films. The reason I see them is for fun. I don't have to even think about anything - totally mindless entertainment. These films are like porn -- why bother with a plot? It's just seeing all the big, or former big, action stars together on screen in impossible scenarios. It's escapism at its best. I hope Statham and Snipes mix it up in this one. Always nice to see Terry Crews as well.
