After losing the likes of Paul Newman, Bernie Mac, George Carlin, Estelle Getty, Roy Scheider and Heath Ledger in 2008 who would have ever thought 2009 would have also taken so many recognizable and loved names. Of course, these are the things we never plan on as once again I continue the tradition I started back in 2006, remembering those we lost over the past year. What a shame to lose all those talents in one year. RIP.
Roy E. Disney died in December 2009. He was one of the many people involved in the animation renaisance.
@Jezza: Thank you for the reminder, I shouldn't have missed that one. He is now included.
Also Patrick McGoohan died in January.
Henry Gibson also past away last year. He was in such movies as "Wedding Crashers", "The Blues Brothers", and "The "Burbs". He was 73 and died of cancer.
RIP to all those we lost last year: you're family and friends (including those whose only relationship with you was through their television sets or their local theaters) will miss. You'll never be forgotten.
Henry Gibson also was in "Magnolia," as well as several key 1970's Robert Altman movies including "Nashville," "The Long Goodbye," and "The Perfect Couple." 2010 is off to a sad start with the passing of Eric Rohmer this week…
it's really sad all the people we lost this year
I miss them all…except for Michael Jackson
are you telling me that you hate michael jackson because all the lies and crap that came out of peoples mouths something tells me you are one of them who still believes til this day that he was sleeping with children that's why you don't miss him, you did not know and understand him.
@goavs: totally unnesessary
He wasn't an actor, though he did play Mario in the Super Mario Brothers Super Show, but Lou Albano definitely comes to mind when thinking of those who passed away this year.
One more for the sad list: Jack Cardiff, cinematographer of "The Red Shoes," "Black Narcissus" and "African Queen," left this earth on April 22. Loved "Casablanca." Dug "Citizen Kane." "Out of the Past" is one of my personal favorites. But for me, "The Red Shoes" is hands down the most beautiful movie of the 1940's, thanks largely to the efforts of Mr. Cardiff. RIP
I am the unknown fan. I sit in the shadows of the darkened theatre. I marvel at the magic that Hollywood puts forth on the silver screen. The presentation of compelling stories. The intensity of individual and ensemble performances. The visually overwhelming special effects, lighting, black & white, and colors. The mood altering rollorcoaster of music and orchestration. The choregrophy of the human body in silence and sound. I also weep at the passing of any artist who has participated in the creation of such magic. A phrase can instantly transport me 'I am not a number. I am a man.", "People say love all the time, it doesn't mean anything. That is why I say ditto.","Kirk, my old friend your still alive.", and "That's the way it is, July 22, 1969" to the memory of that performance. But my sadnes is temperred by the fact that I can find that art any time I want to and relive the artist at there peak. Also that everyday more people step up to try and be as good as those that have passed on.
Thank you so much for doing your yearly list of those we have lost. We had so many in such a short time frame this year that it seems particularly hard! But I will enjoy their life's work through the many films, songs, and writings that they have left behind. What a wonderful legacy to leave for future generations!
please don't forget wayne allwine the one who played as micky mouse in a few disney movie's tv show's and a bigger role in the kingdom hearts series
