'The Dark Knight' Remains Five-Day Champ as Box-Office Actuals Arrive
Now we can put it all behind us
Box-Office Mojo has updated their weekend charts with the three-day actual receipts and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen dropped from the original estimated three-day take of $112 million to finish with $108.9 million for the three-day weekend and $200 million for the five-day, which means The Dark Knight's five-day record of $203.7 million remains intact.
However, Revenge of the Fallen did still manage to break some records such as the biggest single-day IMAX gross with $3.9 million and the biggest five-day IMAX gross with $14.4 million. Of course, this does come with something of an asterisk since several of the so-called IMAX screens the film is showing on aren't the native 70mm IMAX screens as much as they are the refit IMAX Digital screens which are hardly representative of a true IMAX experience.
As for the rest of the box-office weekend, everything pretty much remained the same with Revenge of the Fallen being the only title to shift by anything more than $.2 million or so.

It was predictable that word of mouth hurt their overall total. I don't think this movie is critic proof though since next weekend its going to drop more than 60%.
but i think it would ve done better if it had come out on a friday because it really only had the weekend to recieve alot of money……im guessing if it had come out on june 26 th the money probably would ve done better because people like hte weekends to watch movies in my opinion
THANK GOD is all i can say.
@caleb: I think with the decrease in public morale, increase in unemployment rate, and reduction of working hours for a lot of employees, I'd say its a better release on Wed. Also improved its 5-day since w.o.m. will decrease the earnings on Monday.
God still exists, then.
Oh, and when the estimates end up being too high on the first weekend, it normally means bad holds (whereas with TDK the estimates were too low, portending the good holds that followed). So I think we can expect a nice, quick drop from the throne for Transformers 2.
Yippee.
YES SWEET JUSTICE!
I'd rather watch this movie a million times no matter how terrible it is, because it has to be better than Revolutionary Road.
Whoo-hoo!
Now this movie better do the right think and sink like a stone.
Ugh, I'm so conflicted! On principle, I want the movie to drop heavily, from a being-petty point of view, I want Michael bay taken down a peg or two but for very selfish reasons, i would like Bonaventura to have a hit with this as I'm not clear how G. I. Joe will perform commercially.
Oh well, can't have it all.
i wonder if we'll have to wait for the next batman movie to dethrone the dark knight.
Don't look now, but Transformers 2 is now the 64th highest grossing film of ALL TIME after being out for only one week. So don't go re-affirming your belief in God just yet.
As a side note, this movie needs an easier acronym. We obviously can't use T2.
