The Clandestine 'District 9' Reveals Its First Trailer
Don't expect to get too much, but I think the aliens are here...
Apple has just unveiled the first trailer for District 9 the upcoming sci-fi actioner from Sony Pictures in which they are performing something of a Cloverfield-like marketing plan keeping plot details quiet outside of revealing the film depicts a fictional world where extraterrestrials have become refugees in South Africa. The trailer even goes so far as to distort the face of the alien creature as you can see from the screen cap above.
The film is directed by Neill Blomkamp who was supposed to be directing the "Halo" adaptation before the film based on the Microsoft videogame was scrapped.
District 9 is set to hit theaters on August 14. I attached a few additional screen caps from the trailer below.
You can watch the trailer in high-definition at Apple.

Hey, this looks cool!
It looks like Neill Blomkamp to the premise from his short "Alive in Joburg" and extended it into a feature-length story. Let me add this to my list. Wide release or limited? I'll check that out, too.
This looks really awesome. The idea of putting aliens in a refugee-like sort of way is a good idea, and the documentary style of the trailer makes it really cool.
I loved the scenario they are using: South Africa, Blacks and Whites all uniting against a different race, a really nice play with the apartheid regime.
High hopes, don't let us down!
Alive in Joburg was awesome. If this is only a shred of awesomeness that Joburg was, then it's gonna be the most awesome film of the summer. Trailer looks promisingly awesome. Awesome.
this sure looks interesting. many interesting things happen in africa.
saw the trailer before wolverine and i am with brad on this it has kind of a cloverfield feel to it but i looked cloverfield and i'm very interested in seeing this film and how audiences will respond to it since it's being distributed by tri star a company that hardly ever makes big films anymore but best of look i'm rooting for it.
