'The Bourne Legacy' Teaser Poster

Prepare for the unexpected

A lackluster teaser poster for The Bourne Legacy has arrived online courtesy of Cine 1, which basically tells us everything we already know; the film stars Jeremy Renner, opens on August 3, 2012 and is called The Bourne Legacy. Other than that, we get the tagline "Prepare for the unexpected," to which I say... "Okay."

We did learn a few more things about the film at the end of last week when the first look at Renner as Aaron Cross debuted (see that here). Little else is known about Cross or the film outside of the fact Matt Damon will not be returning for this film as Jason Bourne, though the film exists in that same world and we are assured by writer/director Tony Gilroy that Jason Bourne is "very much alive".

Cross's story is actually triggered by the events of the first three films and I can only assume the hope is sometime down the line Cross's path will meet with Bourne's should the new wrinkle in the franchise prove successful at the box-office.

So without any more delay, check out the uneventful poster below and stay tuned as I expect we'll be getting more looks at the film shortly as filming is currently underway with Renner being joined by fellow newcomers Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Stacy Keach and Oscar Isaac as well as franchise veterans Albert Finney, Joan Allen, David Strathairn and Scott Glenn reprising their roles from previous films.

If the poster tells something about the film I won't see it. Not even Renner's face on it? Boring.

Matt Damon is far too cool now for action movies. Now that Ocean's 11 and the Bourne movies have made him a star, he can roll his eyes at fun movies in favor of message movies (with the occasional give-in to directors that he respects, even if you end up with We Bought a Zoo). Chances of his return to the Bourne franchise are about the same as George Clooney returning to a superhero movie.

Or maybe the poster tag is simply a response to the question, "I thought I was gonna see Matt Damon in this."

If this poster tells me anything is that I should actually expect something boring and simple. Why even bother doing something like that, right? It's not selling anything.

    Yawn. What a boring teaser.

Is that a hockey stick on the bottom half of the poster? Because I swear the poster looks like an ice rink...lol.
