Teaser Trailer for 'Percy Jackson and the Olympians'
Do we have another hit fantasy franchise on the horizon?
AOL has just debuted the teaser trailer for Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief which is based on the book by Rick Riordon and due in theaters on February 12. The film is directed by Chris Columbus who just suffered a massive failure with I Love You Beth Cooper, but with this fantasy epic he appears to be returning to the a world not unlike the first two Harry Potter films which found Columbus plenty of success.
The story centers on Poseidon's 12-year-old half-human son Percy Jackson (Logan Lerman), who embarks on a quest across modern-day America to save his mother, return Zeus' stolen lightning bolt and prevent a deadly war between the gods. Rounding out the casting is Catherine Keener who will play Percy's mother, Uma Thurman as Medusa, Pierce Brosnan as Chiron, Sean Bean as Zeus, Kevin McKidd as Poseidon and Melina Kanakerides as Athena.
Considering the timing of this debut I am surprised to see Percy Jackson isn't part of Fox's presentation at next week's Comic Con, which I will be attending and briefing you on next week in preparation as RopeofSilicon will be going uber-geek for a week.
For now, check out the trailer directly below and weigh in with your thoughts in the comments, especially if you have read the Riordan source material and let us know how this teaser stacks up in comparison.
Check out the trailer in high definition at AOL.

It looks solid but changes have been made from the book.
That looks pretty good!
Olympus look a bit like Hogwarts. Anyways lLogan is perfect. He's exactly like Percy minus the flaring nostrils. Love his hair.
Really annoying trailer, what with the constant fade up/to black thing every other second. Plus, with a logo like that right on the heels of "from the director of Harry Potter…", how is anyone supposed to see this as anything *but* a ripoff of HP? I only have a vague interest in Potter, having seen the movies on cable, but I certainly don't have much interest in seeing a simple cash-in attempt.
If there's more to the book's core idea, hopefully the studios will craft a trailer that sells that instead and does the property justice.
ive have read all the percy jackson books and im super excited about it becoming a movie. im a little upset about the teaser trailer it doesnt have much of what the story behind it is about. if i was to see this first time without reading the books i wouldnt have a clue about what it was about. it gives hints here and there but no actual story line ive read reviews about it already and i dont want people to think it is a knock off or harry potter because it certaianly is different. the director is from harry potter so most of his/her ideas went into it but still they could have done better especially if they want viewers to be interested in the movie and want the other books to be made into a movie as well.
omg the books were better than harry potter but im very upset because of the cast members in the book the kids were 12 in the movie they look 18. me personally as a fan i dont like dat. i also dont like that teh cast dosent look like what the auther discribed hopefully the movie is goos im counting down the days !!!!!!!!
Thanks for posting, but he's obviously not 12 in the movie. Perhaps you should edit your intro above.
Logan is 17 and will be 18 when the film comes out. Maybe he can pass for a couple of years younger but certainly not 12.
i have read the whole series and it is nothing like harry potter and personally i think the trailer was great and made alot of sense if your a fan of the book series.however if you havent read the book series it might not make sense.but you have to realize that the first trailer of any movie doesent have to make sense it just has to get the viewer interested and it did if you take in that there was a weard kid walking into the empire state building and pressing this a weird button at the top of the panel in the elevator and it blasting him to the top and the door opening to mount olympis.now that is a great first trailer.besides they will get more involved trailers as we get closer to the movie.the first one is supposed to be wierd and look adventorous and exiting witch it did to a lot of people at the theater that i was at.
I'm upset that they decided to make the characters older, It loses abit of the charm with older older teens, and it is less likely that the same actors will play the part in the future movies, if there are future movies.
the kid playing percy is pretty short and i beleave he can pull off a twelve year old and unless he hits a huge growth spurt within the next5 years i think the movie will be fine.
the movie graphics also looked outstanding and the movie is also directed by the same director of the first two harry potter movies so it should be really good.and for any of you who doubt the movie because of the first trailer you should look up the very first harry potter and the scorccerers stone trailer.it dident explain that much but the movie bloo the audience away.
I don't like the cast, but the books are great. But i'm still angry 'bout the cast.
cant wait i love all teh books so stoked
