Teaser Poster for 'Sherlock Holmes' Debuts at ShoWest

Downey shrouded in darkness

LatinoReview has made their yearly jaunt to Las Vegas for the annual theatrical presentations at ShoWest, an event that was once a home for theater owners to check out new exhibition and distribution, theatre equipment, concessions manufacturing, etc. but has now turned into yet another venue for studios to preview new film footage as well as new artwork for upcoming pictures.

Getting into the spirit in advance the LR boys have scored a couple of digital camera snaps at posters for Sherlock Holmes, 500 Days of Summer, The Hangover and Easy Virtue. Obviously based on my headline I am only interested in one of those as Robert Downey Jr.'s mug is prominently featured on the teaser poster you see to the right.

I doctored the image a little to adjust for angle, squished it, darkened it up a bit, added a little additional contrast, rubber stamped out the camera glare and, even though the LR boys may not like it, removed their watermark.

So, if you want to see the full-sized original version and the rest of their posters click here for the goods and keep an eye over there as this is certainly just the start of posters I assume they will be posting over the coming week as ShoWest will be taking place from Monday, March 30 – April 2.

The Sherlock Homes poster is too dark they should lighten it up a bit, also it should reflect Victorian London I hope they do not use this one.

    Just say No

It looks more like Jack The Ripper.

Holmes is an extremely dark character, I think its quite appropriate.

    I'm excited for this!

@Shelly: I agree with you completely. The whole story of Sherlock Holmes is about solving mysteries. This poster is just that: dark and mysterious. While the poster is nothing phenomenal, I think its good.

Is this movie going to have a normal Victorian setting or will it be steampunk? Steampunk Holmes would be mindblowingly cool, though that isn't the case here, right?

  6. The LR guys might not like it, but you provided a link and your poster looks a shit ton better than their poorly photographed still. And yes, they can add a watermark to an image they don't own, but since they have no claim on it, one should be free to remove it. The only time one should be ethically allowed to watermark something is when you've been given something exclusively.

No no no what none of this mentions is that this movie is being made by Guy Ritchie so its not going to be your typical Holmes movie. It will be dark and glorious!!!

It's not your usual Sherlock Holmes poster; but I've heard this isn't a canonical Sherlock Holmes movie. Gritty. More like Sam Spade or Philo Vance or Philp Marlowe : the tough, honest man on the mean and nasty streets. (or even Christopher Marlowe – addict, tormented man of the night.) The poster suits that sort of character
