Tarantino's 'Inglourious Basterds' Set for August Release
Hopefully with Universal's involvement this date will stick
I think we all owe a debt of gratitude to Universal Pictures for coming on board the production of Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds as an August 21 release date has been announced for the co-production between The Weinstein Co. and Universal. Typically a Weinstein release will scatter itself all over the release schedule until it has been moved to the point of obscurity. With Universal attached I am assuming we can expect a traditional marketing effort and in all likelihood for the film to stick to this release date. Fingers crossed.
The film begins in German-occupied France, where Shosanna Dreyfus (Mélanie Laurent) witnesses the execution of her family at the hand of Nazi Colonel Hans Landa (Christoph Waltz). Shosanna narrowly escapes and flees to Paris, where she forges a new identity as the owner and operator of a cinema.
Elsewhere in Europe, Lieutenant Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt) organizes a group of Jewish soldiers to engage in targeted acts of retribution. Known to their enemy as "The Basterds," Raine's squad joins German actress and undercover agent Bridget Von Hammersmark (Diane Kruger) on a mission to take down the leaders of The Third Reich. Fates converge under a cinema marquee, where Shosanna is poised to carry out a revenge plan of her own…

Man Brad Pitt sure does look goofy in that picture!
This looks like it will be a good movie. Unless it turns out Fox owns this too.
One of my most anticipated movies of 09
Behind only Watchmen, this is the film I want to see most in 2009.

I just can't get past the title… I'm an English major, sue me. I like Tarantino but I don't pee myself with excitement every time he releases a movie like some people seem to, so I'll probably end up skipping this one.
