Taraji P. Henson Plays Mamma to 'The Karate Kid'
We will paint the fence in 2010
MTV is reporting Taraji P. Henson (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) has signed on to star as the mother to Will Smith's son Jaden Smith in the upcoming remake The Karate Kid.
"I’m off to Beijing [soon] to work on a film," Henson told the site. "Jaden Smith is playing the karate kid. I’m playing his mom, and Jackie Chan is playing Mr. Miyagi."
Word around the campfire is Jaden's character will not be named Daniel as it was when played by Ralph Macchio in the earlier films, but his name will be Dre. Mr. Miyagi will be known as Mr. Han and if you remember the evil sensei played by Martin Kove known as John Kreese, his new name is Li Quan Ha.
All this comes from Moviehole who says the story itself is very much the same as the original outside of names and locations. Henson's character will be named Sherry, and things kick off as she is transferred to China where she will move with her young son Dre.
Dre then gets in fights with bullies, meets Mr. Han, starts waxing on and off and then wins the battle in the end.
Sony Pictures will release The Karate Kid on June 11, 2010.

this sounds terrible.
Something smells terribly fishy! To be so blatantly admitting that it is a rip off of the original is odd to me. I have a feeling it's gonna turn into a CGI frenzy, BEWARE!
The old movies got me started off in karate . Hopefully this movie doesnt ruin the first one for a newer generation. It got me to become a black belt im pretty sure if this one does a good job then itll inspire others .
Are they gonna approach Ralph Macchio for a cameo or something? If they do, hopefully he hangs up on them.
So Jackie Chan, who is Chinese, plays Mr. Han (formerly known as Miyagi) who sounds Chinese and it's all set in China………
But it's still KARATE kid?
It all sounds more Kung Fu to me and no matter which style you take and even though they have the same origins it's very different to Karate.
I wouldn't mind, I have great respect for both martial arts but does Sony (Japanese) think audiences are idiots?
………never mind, don't answer that.
