Take a Moment and Give the 'Chandni Chowk to China' Trailer a Watch
Bollywood kung fu comedy preps to take America by storm
Is Bollywood set to move into Hollywood? Give the trailer for Chandi Chowk to China a watch and you tell me if you wouldn't mind giving this little flick a once over… I'm getting a glossy Kung Fu Hustle vibe off this thing and I am digging it.
Directed by Nikhil Advani and starring Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone, Mithun Chakravorty, Ranvir Shorey and Gordon Liu the film moves from Chandni Chowk in Delhi, to Shanghai, the Great Wall and rural China as Sidhu (Kumar), a simple cook from Chandni Chowk who longs to escape his dreary existence. He sees his chance when two strangers from China claim him to be the reincarnation of a war hero from the past and entreat him to come back with them to their village in China. Dreaming of the princely existence that awaits him, Sidhu blissfully sets out for China, never suspecting that he is being set up to take on the vicious smuggler Hojo (Gordon Liu) and help his new friends reclaim their village.
Watch the trailer below and look for the film in theaters on January 16.

Take America by storm? I certainly hope not. I have seen hundreds of bollywood movies in my life and I can tell you now that 90% of them are over the top and plain tacky. Although this one looks different, for a Bollywood movie, the dialogues look weak, and don't even get me started on the pointless songs and dances that have ruined so many Indian films. Yes that's what makes them 'indian', but just look at some of the biggest Bollywood hits of all time like 'Om Shanti Om' and tell me I'm wrong. All bollywood is gonna storm is the people who already like bollywood, it won't be gaining international audience, at least not in the long run. The reason is simple, it tries to copy Hollywood too much. Another fact, it's highest paid actress, Katrina, can't act and barely knows her native tongue; more than half her films have another lady doing a voice. Basically Bollywood looks all nice and glossy on the surface, but the substance is poor.
Wanted to get all that off my chest!
This looks absolutely terrible. Whoever made it needs to be drug out into the street and shot.
It really looks so excruciatingly stupid and weird and horrible.
It certainly is the most awaited Bollywood movie of the year. However, the the point made by Adu cannot be ignored. 90% of Bollywood movies are ruined by unnecessary song and dance sequences. Lets hope Warner Bros. dont take the same route and give this movie a Hollywood touch of SANITY.
Hmm!
Kung fu,song and dance all wrapped up in a comedy.
Anyone else think this looks familiar?
Kung Fu Hustle maybe?(A great film-my opinion)
Just my two cents.
The major problem is that Bollywood has come to represent the cinema of the entire country. There is some really good cinema down south which does not get the publicity or the press it deserves.
Bollywood is too lost in its self-content, inconsequential, ignorant and childish world. All it's lead actors are above forty and think changing external appearances (getting six-packs and all) makes great acting. There is hardly anything original or really worth watching. Once in a while, though it's good – like, maybe, going to a circus.
But wait, they have real artistes in circuses, don't they?
If anyone wants wants to watch really good Indian (Hindi) cinema they should dig out the old films of Guru Dutt or even some of 70's working class cinema.
hey saif..stop beatin yur own drum..chillax dude..yur so biased..
i think its a time that we should all learn to respect other cultures and art. may b according to us these flicks look stupid and insane..then hey not all hollywood movies are classics..
these people have their own way of making movies they enjoy em luv em.. they dunn prefer watching hollywood flicks on their weekend..leave it that way..
we shouldnt be argueing over a flick, if you dun lyk it dun wana watch den dun watch it..just keepin it simple guys.
cheers.
wow..its great to see the sub continent getting recognition..
i think bollywood has matured over the years and the storylines have become less and less dependant on songs and dances..some of the recent blockbusters that'll really give you a better idea of it in my opinion are :
- Rang De Basanti
- Taare Zameen Per
- Sarkar
-Guru
- Khuda ke Liye ( In the name of God) ( this is a Pakistani film and released in India as well.)
