Superman is Arrested in New 'Man of Steel' Poster

COMMENTS

Looks like Superman is going to need some bail money

As a way of promoting tomorrow's DVD and Blu-ray release of The Dark Knight Rises, Warner Bros. had fans sharing some sort of Facebook widget that ultimately unlocked the following new poster for Zack Snyder's Superman flick Man of Steel, which depicts Henry Cavill as the titular superhero in handcuffs.

The next trailer for the film is going to be shown in front of screenings of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey on December 14 and I'm sure this imagery will be addressed somehow. There appears to me to be some sort of learning curve going on here in that just as Batman was turned into a villain in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight trilogy, they may be getting to that early on in this first Superman feature.

Man of Steel hits theaters on June 14. Check out the poster below.

Man of Steel : Poster

In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Cavill) is a young twentysomething journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone's imagination. Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, an advanced alien planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question -- Why am I here? Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Diane Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), Clark soon discovers that having super abilities means making very difficult decisions. But when the world needs stability the most, it comes under attack. Will his abilities be used to maintain peace or ultimately used to divide and conquer? Clark must become the hero known as "Superman," not only to shine as the world's last beacon of hope but to protect the ones he loves.

Maybe they're trying to make him look 'more human' like they did with Nolan's Batman. If that's the case, I say 'FUCK THAT!!! He's fucking SUPERMAN! He's an ALIEN! He's not supposed to appear human!"

    • xSTEVEj says:

He could, but that's not the point. I would imagine he's trying to go along with his captors in an effort to curb the whole "alien with super strength who's out to get humanity" mindset.

If they think he's an out of control super-powered alien who needs to be controlled, he's probably not going to help that image much by breaking free. At least until he absolutely has to...

Maybe for whatever it is causing him to be in handcuffs, it's a sign of respect for humans.

kind of like......'I could break out, but there's a reason I'm here and I'll go with that'. Unless it's Kryptonite chains of course.

Yeah as two of the above have alluded to, Superman would go along with this. He's not the type to fight off authority. He'd be going along with it to show that he's not threat.

Excellent poster. This image alone is more compelling than the entirety of Superman Returns. The suit looks great and the incongruous imagery of his unearthly presence shackled amidst what appears to be a Seal Team is quite dynamic. This is the first time I've ever been interested in the story of a Superman movie. Thumbs up.

A very striking image for sure. I think the grainy, low-res, out-of-focus look to the poster is intentional. It induces one to take a closer look. The found footage look combined with the other-worldly nature of Kal-El just adds an aura of mystery to the poster. A great piece of marketing, in my opinion.

    Thems the facts
