Stone's 'W' Set for October from Lionsgate
Just like that, it's three articles in two days
Oliver Stone's George W. Bush biopic, W, continues in its second day of major news as Variety confirms that Lionsgate will indeed distribute the pic and it will also be hitting theaters on October 17 giving it three weekends in theaters before the Nov. 4 presidential election.
Shooting is set to get underway on May 12 in Shreveport, LA, which Entertainment Weekly recently profiled a visit to the set.
The cast features Josh Brolin as Bush as well as Elizabeth Banks (Laura Bush), James Cromwell (George H.W. Bush), Ellen Burstyn (Barbara Bush), Thandie Newton (Condoleezza Rice), Jeffrey Wright (Colin Powell), Scott Glenn (Donald Rumsfeld) and Ioan Gruffudd (Tony Blair). The role of Dick Cheney is still up in the air and Paul Giamatti's name continues to swirl around the character while Robert Duvall is apparently no longer in the running.
Lionsgate is a good fit for the film as they have traditionally picked up films that the majors won't touch. While Lionsgate is not exactly a mini studio it remains something of an independent and isn't afraid of films that may buck the system. Stone was quoted saying, "I'm real pleased that Lionsgate has the independence necessary to bring this provocative story to an American audience."
Now all Lionsgate needs to do is get rid of Tyler Perry and all can be well.
