Star of Ridiculous Primetime Soap Opera Signs for Love Interest Role in 'Captain America 2'

Better watch your back Cap, she's a fiesty one

Emily VanCampHave you seen "Revenge"? Or, "Reven-Eight-E" as I like to call it considering the clever way they use the infinity symbol for the "g" in the title? It's quite ridiculous, but the lady of the house loves it and I can even admit to getting reeled in just enough to ask enough questions about what's going on, why this person is doing that, and so forth. That is, until I'm told to leave the room. (Big surprise, I can be rather annoying when I don't like something.)

Well, the star of "Reven8e" is Emily VanCamp and she plays a girl pretending to be another girl who goes to Southampton to get revenge on the people that killed her father, at least that's how I remember it. Madeleine Stowe is in it and wow is she a long way from "I will find you. No matter how far!" and Henry Czerny is just doing his thing.

I mention all of this because VanCamp has wrangled a role as a love interest in Captain America: Winter Soldier where she's expected to be playing (though unconfirmed) Sharon Carter, sister of Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell in the first film) and new romantic interest for ol' Cap'n (Chris Evans).

A short list of names was revealed back in October, of which VanCamp was not included. Those that were named were Jessica Brown Findlay ("Downton Abbey"), Emilia Clarke ("Game of Thrones"), Teresa Palmer (Warm Bodies), Imogen Poots (Fright Night) and Alison Brie (The Five-Year Engagement). Rumor has it one of these girls may attempt to swap lives with VanCamp just so they can get in the movie, but that is just preliminary hearsay at this point.

VanCamp joins a cast that includes Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Frank Grillo, Cobie Smulders, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson and Toby Jones with a release date targeting April 14, 2014. [Deadline]

    Bringing the snark today.

I will admit to actually enjoying Revenge. It's ridiculous but that's part of the fun for me. In all seriousness though, I think Emily Van Camp is a decent actress and will do fine in the role.

  • Harold

I'm actually offended by the headline, the first season is a great season. Perhaps you can save your irritation for something else. I hear homeland is ridiculous this season...

    • Kai Sacco

I hear Good Comments will be ridiculous on Tuesday...

How is Peggy's sister going to be his love interest? Wouldnt she be REALLY old or did Peggy's father get around making Sharon when he was REALLY OLD himself?

    • Emma

She was her sister, then she was rectonned as her niece and now she's supposed to be Peggy's great-niece.

Instead of not liking Emily VanCamp because of Revenge,

See her work in the WB series "Everwood".
    She is good

    • Cory S.

And the film Carriers, which is pretty damn good.

Revenge is not as bad as you paint it! It is quite nice to watch and I think the interest point here is that Emily vancamp is actually a very good actress.

  • Winchester

Personally haven't watched whole lot of Revenge myself but she seems OK in it from what I can tell. I don't see at this point what makes the idea of her worse than the other listed names.

  • William

She was good in Everwood, that's all I know.

Revenge was really good last season. VanCamp is beautiful, and not surprised she is heading to the big screen. She more than holds her own against Madeline Stowe (on the tube), and that is no easy task.
