Kris from In Contention just shot me an email letting me know he has up a bootleg copy of Bruce Springsteen's much talked about track from The Wrestler online right here.

The track is an original song that plays over the film's closing credits and as such may not be eligible for an Original Song Oscar Nom (rules, who needs 'em?). I am not exactly a huge Bruce fan so I will take Tapley at his word when he says, "I think it's vintage Boss, a solid number that seems a perfect fit for what this film appears to be."

He also links to the lyrics from the song as transcribed by a Google Group Member, which read like this:

Have you ever seen a one trick pony in fields of ???? ???? ????
If you've ever seen a one trick pony then you've seen me.
Have you ever seen a one legged dog making its way down the street
If you've ever seen a one legged dog then you've seen me

Then you've seen me – I come and stand in every door
You've seen me – I always leave with less than I had before
You've seen me – but I can make you smile when the blood it hits the floor
Tell me friend, can you ask for anything more
Tell me, can you ask for anything more

Have you ever seen the scarecrow stuffed(?) with nothing but dust and weed
If you've ever seen that scarecrow then you've seen me
Have you ever seen a one armed man punching at nothing but the breeze
If you've ever seen a one armed man then you've seen me

Then you've seen me I come and stand in every door
You've seen me I always leave with less than I had before
You've seen me but I can make you smile when the blood it hits the floor
Tell me friend, can you ask for anything more
Tell me, can you ask for anything more

These things ???? ???? me I try to leave(?)…
This place that is my home – I cannot stay(?)
I always wake from the broken bones and bruises I display

Have you ever seen a one legged man trying his (????) to break free
If you've ever seen a one legged man then you've seen me…

The Wrestler was just picked up by Fox Searchlight and will most likely hit theaters some time in December for a late season Oscar push. More on the film's Oscar chances can be found in my "The Contenders" section.

The copy Tapley has is a bootleg version so you may want to hustle in case it gets removed.

Any Boss fans out there have an opinion on the track or is it too rough to tell?

Are millions of people really missing that Springsteen is visualizing a 3-legged dog, not a 1-legged dog? A 1-legged dog would just lay there and squirm around, probably not do a very good job at all of making it's way down the street. I guess, like our eyes, our ears correct what we hear to a sensible image. Norfitz.

I do not get that lyric. It's irritating. The only thing I can think is he is envisioning himself as a dog (like a scraggily, downtrodden man), so he can have one leg. I don't know. I can't listen to that song because I picture a one legged dog unable to move. Maybe that's the meaning– He is trapped by his own mind and internal battles, so he doesn't move at all.

a one legged dog can't walk down the street.. so have you ever seen that? no.
so he could be saying that if you've ever seen that then you've seen him, but you probly haven't.
