According to the Los Angeles Times, all the Spider-Man 4 talk is not just talk as John Horn tells us producer Laura Ziskin said the fourth installment in the web-slinging superhero series is tentatively scheduled to arrive in May 2011.

The news comes as a result of Ziskin addressing theater owners from California and Nevada on Thursday, saying while there was no finished screenplay, that she and Sony Pictures were hopeful Spider-Man 4 could be ready in three years' time.

You may remember that Sam Raimi gave a choice quote to ComingSoon two weeks ago saying:

"James Vanderbilt is writing the script and I'm excited to read it. I think it's going to be done in a few months," Raimi told us, adding, "I'm hoping it's as great as our discussions were about it and I'm hoping it feels right for me because I love Spider-Man. I'm hoping I'm well rested enough to embrace it and I'm hoping Sony wants me to do it. If all of those things come together, I would love to do it. There are a lot of unknowns about the future."

Raimi's involvement has always been speculative and so has that of lead cast members Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst. Rumors of replacing Maguire sprouted up near the end of May with names like Patrick Fugit and Michael Angarano being rumored. Sony quickly squashed the rumor (of course) saying the weren't interested in replacing Maguire.

Should Raimi decide to make Spider-Man 4 it would be one film of several the director has on his plate. He is currently helming his return to horror with Drag Me To Hell, is attached to a new Jack Ryan feature at Paramount and is expected to develop and direct a film adaptation of Dennis Lehane's upcoming book "The Given Day." Busy? Yes.

That's quite a job to take one, the script first has to better than the last one.
I had high hopes when I heard Venom would be one of the villains but I wasn't very impressed at all.
So they have a little making up to do and if they have to replace one or both leads that won't help the end result.
