Social Network

Over the next few days you're going to be seeing several articles such as this as not only are the Boston Film Critics voting today, but so are the Los Angeles Film Critics with the New York Critics announcing their 2010 winners tomorrow, followed the next day by the Golden Globe nominations. But let's take it one step at a time and evaluate each individually and then on Wednesday we'll take a more in-depth look at what it all means to the Oscar race. Of course, we'll probably have to revisit the conversation all over again as the Screen Actors Guild announce their nominees on Thursday.

Today, The Social Network got off to a good start with big wins with the Boston film critics, taking Picture, Actor (Jesse Eisenberg), Director (David Fincher), Screenplay (Aaron Sorkin) and Score (Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross). You can pretty much count on the film being nominated in all five of those categories and I'd say at the moment it's likely to win Picture, Director and Adapted Screenplay at the Oscars, but like I said… more on that later.

Elsewhere, probably one of the bigger surprises is a Best Supporting Actress win for Juliette Lewis for Conviction. To this point the talk hasn't centered on Lewis at all, with Helena Bonham Carter (The King's Speech), The Fighter duo Melissa Leo and Amy Adams, and Jacki Weaver for Animal Kingdom dominating the chatter. As a result of Lewis's win today I added her to my list of Supporting Actress predictions as I didn't even have her on the list up to this point.

Marwencol, which isn't even on the Academy's shortlist for Best Documentary, took home that award and the film's director, Jeff Malmberg, also took home Best New Filmmaker.

The Fighter won for Best Ensemble Cast and I thought it was interesting to see Andrew Weisblum win Best Editing for Black Swan, an award I hope The Social Network is not only nominated in at the Oscars, but right now I think it should win.

You can check out the complete list of winners directly below and be sure to check out my "Oscar Overture" section for a list of all current award, group and guild winners as well as the upcoming schedule as to when they'll all be announcing their awards.

I feel like i`m the only one who thinks the Social network is overrated,i mean i loved it,it`s good movie but it`s not "OMG,it`s so awesome"

  3. Feedback

I loved The Social Network, probably my favorite of the year. But this year hasn't had any movie at the level of other years' masterpieces though. Inception, Toy Story 3, The Ghost Writer and 127 Hours are all fantastic but each has its flaws. The Social Network is my favorite of the bunch, its witty dialogue and fantastic performances won me over.
