The battle begins

Snow White and the Huntsman trailer and posterUniversal Pictures just sent over four new character posters along with today's debut of the Snow White and the Huntsman trailer.

The film is an action-adventure take on the old fairy tale starring Kristen Stewart (Twilight) as Snow White, the only person in the land fairer than the evil queen (Charlize Theron) who is out to destroy her. But what the wicked ruler never imagined is that the one girl threatening her reign has been training in the art of war with a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) who was dispatched to kill her.

I have included the trailer directly below along with a thumbnail gallery for the new character posters, which you can also check out in larger versions in my Snow White and the Huntsman picture gallery right here.

Snow White and the Huntsman hits theaters on June 1, 2012 and with the names mentioned above, it also stars Sam Claflin, Ian McShane, Bob Hoskins, Toby Jones, Eddie Marsan, Ray Winstone, Lily Cole and Nick Frost and is directed by Rupert Sanders.

Check out the trailer and posters below and let me know what you think in the comments below. If you'd like to watch the trailer in high definition you can do so at Apple.

POSTERS

In the epic action-adventure Snow White and the Huntsman, Kristen Stewart (Twilight) plays the only person in the land fairer than the evil queen (Oscar winner Charlize Theron) who is out to destroy her. But what the wicked ruler never imagined is that the one girl threatening her reign has been training in the art of war with a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth, Thor) who was dispatched to kill her. Sam Claflin (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) joins the cast as the prince long enchanted by Snow White's beauty and power.

The breathtaking new vision of the legendary tale is from Joe Roth, the producer of Alice in Wonderland, producer Sam Mercer (The Sixth Sense) and acclaimed commercial director and state-of-the-art visualist Rupert Sanders ("Halo 3" campaign).

    Wow. impressive stuff.

  • Carla B√∂rjesson

Why no seven dwarves in the trailer? Snow White and the Huntsman will be better than Mirror, Mirror because it has the stronger cast and it will be at least be the more critically successful movie. In addition, unlike Mirror, Mirror, the Queen in this film looks like an evil villain.

You can see the dwarfs in the official poster.

  • Hey You

WOW I wasn't expecting that. I never thought I'd say that I will actually pay theater money to watch Snow White

  • moviebuff

    wow seriously wow!
i remember when i first read about this movie and the other snow white movie mirror mirror, i thought these are both going to be really shitty.
i still think the other one wont be that great
but after watching the trailer for this i cant wait to see it!! i love the dark tone it took

Looks pretty nice. I think it was smart to put the focus of the trailer on the Queen as opposed to Snow White... Although I'm wondering if not giving any lines to Stewart (in the trailer at least) was a conscious decision.

The FX could use a little polish. Anyone else notice that the music was like an electronica version of the Inception trailer music?

  • Ian

You can certainly tell that this was made by an "acclaimed commercial director" as they put it. Way too stylized-looking and a horridly out of place music selection. The images they've shown so far made me think this could actually be a gritty medieval action film, but the trailer just makes it look bad.

"Alice in Wonderland" meets "Lord of The Rings" with some DEFFINATE similarities to LOTR, of which I am a HUGE fan. I am SERRUOUSLY excited for this. As for "Mirror, Mirror", I am excited to see Tarsem Singh's visually vibrant world, and see Julia Roberts do the Evil Queen. I DO think Theron will be the more bad-ass of the two queens, though. As for who will play the better Snow White, my money's on K-Stew. It looks like she can SERRIOUSLY kick ass, and she has THOR on her side. ;) This looks EPIC!!!!

  • Scott M

Looks stupid to me. Just another attempt to make an epic action movie out of something that isn't inherently an action story.

I'd much rather just go back and watch the Disney animated movie.

This looks very much like the travesty that was Alice in Wonderland.

  • The Jackal

I must admit, after watching this trailer, I'm very excited for the release of this film. That was fantastic!! Got a cool Lord of the Rings/Alice in Wonderland vibe from it. This looks cool...and dare I say: EPIC?

    Thems the facts

  • Matt

This looks really great. Even though there is no world in which Kristen Stewart is "fairer" than Charlize Theron.

  • adu

    Looks very impressive.

  • Amit

I would have said i was impressed if this was a stand alone movie instead of a snow white feature....the action movie spin/vibe doesent excite....the quirkiness of Tarsem's version interests me more....

Theron seems to be havin fun though and seems to have a more central role in the proceedings...she being one of my favs, i might watch this for her....

I see the film in two different ways...

1.) A movie that people will pass on because of its title. The men wouldn't watch it because it's "Snow White", or it could be that families won't watch this because of its darker theme.

    or

2.) It'll be an "Alice in Wonderland" type of movie, people loving the new twist, and couples/families joining in the trend.

    So...either it'll bomb or be a big hit. $20M vs. $80M opening weekend....at least it's not in 3D

  • mfan

I prejudged this film, thinking I would skip it. But I just saw the trailer. Wow, wow, wow! This is going to be totally awesome! Whoever did the trailer nailed the music to go along with it. 2012 is shaping up to be the best year for must see films in a long time.

  • stringtail

YEEHA!! Ready to watch this now.

  • Kimberlesk

The fact that Stewart has no audible lines in this trailer is not promising. The trailer looks great -- Charlize looks fabulous -- Hemsworth looks great, as well. But if Stewart is supposed to be the "star, how come she doesn't figure more prominently in the trailer? Maybe because she hasn't perfected her British accent yet? I wonder ...

    • jjj

well it is just a teaser trailer. Rooney Mara didn't have any lines in the first trailer for GWTDT, neither did Christian Bale in The Dark Knight trailer back in 2008. I remember people getting real upset over that. LIttle to no dialouge seems to be standard

  • StewFan

Awesome! Can't wait this looks super sweet :)

  • Brett Ange

Wasn't expecting that. Really looking forward to this!!

  • Winchester

I must be having a bad week for trailers because that didn't really leave me wanting to see it too much.

Although Theron looks the part I was a bit distracted by her accent through it. Was Hemsworth at one point trying to sound Scottish by any chance?

Anyway - not a must see at the moment.
