Singer Setting Up 'Superman' Doc
Following in the footsteps of Peter Jackson ain't easy.
First Peter Jackson collaborated with fansite KongisKing.net and provided online viewers production diaries during the filming of his remake of King Kong, then Bryan Singer collaborated with "fansite" BlueTights.net to bring his own production diaries to the Internet during the filming of Superman Returns.
Then Peter Jackson released his production diaries in a special edition DVD set prior to the release of his giant monkey movie, and now Bryan Singer is set to work with documentary director Kevin Burns to make "Look Up in the Sky: The Amazing Story of Superman" which will actually see a theatrical release through Warner Bros. along with a TV broadcast would show a cut of the film that includes a scene from the new movie prior to the June 30, 2006 release of Superman Returns. I guess an attempt at one-upping is in order, especially considering King Kong opened to a minuscule $9.8 million on its first day, half of the box-office take that was expected.
"I have such an admiration for the evolution of the character and what Superman has represented over nearly eight decades," Singer told Variety. "I wanted a document that respects the legacy and the collective consciousness of Superman."
Filming wrapped on Superman Returns last month.
