Singer is 'Mayor of Castro Street'
Royce aboard to adapt Milk story.
Variety is reporting that sought after helmer Bryan Singer has signed on to direct The Mayor of Castro Street, Randy Shilts' look at the life and assassination of San Francisco supervisor Harvey Milk.
Singer has tapped Brandon Royce (Wicker Park) to adapt the screenplay on Milk, the first openly gay man elected to any substantial political office in the U.S., was assassinated along with Mayor George Moscone by supervisor Daniel White.
Apparently Oliver Stone and even Gus Van Sant have been in line to helm this project in the past but Stone was released considering the drubbing he took for his depiction of gay characters in JFK.
Variety also reports that Singer brought an art department with him to the Australia set were he is currently filming Superman Returns as he is also supervising the preproduction of Logan's Run.
