'Slumdog Millionaire,' 'Milk' and 'Bashir' Take Top Honors at WGA Awards
And the 'Slumdog' roll continues
David Carr at the New York Times is reporting Slumdog Millionaire has won yet another award as screenwriter Simon Beaufoy wins for his adaptation of Vikas Swarup's novel. Here's his report:
Terry George, whose been nominated twice for an Oscar for adapted screenplay (In the Name of the Father, and Hotel Rwanda), first suggested it was an easy task that involved keeping the start and throwing out the middle part, went to say it was actually a murderous challenge, that involved writing a movie for the millions who "have a an image of that piece of work in their mind and try and put those dreams in a bottle."
After listing the nominees – Eric Roth for Button, Christopher Nolan for Dark Knight, John Patrick Shanley for Doubt, Peter Morgan for Frost/Nixon and Simon Beaufoy for Slumdog, he made the unsurprising announcement that Slumdog had won.
Mr. Beaufoy examined the winged sculpture thingie that the WGA gives out and pronounced it "beautiful, and there are many awards out there that are not genuinely beautiful."
Variety brings us the rest of the winners which includes Dustin Lance Black's script for Milk winning best original screenplay while Waltz with Bashir won in the documentary category with a script by Ari Folman. You can get the rest of the winners right here

Has any film before Slumdog swept the guilds before?
Nevermind, I have a short memory. No Country for Old Men did it just last year.
No surprises here. "Milk" and "Slumdog Millionaire" will probably go on to win the Oscars as well.
As they both deserve to do.
I'd much rather see In Bruges win at the Oscars, but Milk wouldn't be a bad winner either. Slumdog all the way.
The Oscar for original screenplay is up for grabs imho. You could make a great argument for most of the nominees. It's probably one of the few categories wherein the winner hasn't been pretty much decided.
USC film 04, original screenplay isn't a tossup. Milk has no strong competition. It's the only movie in that category that was also nominated for BP.
