Ugh, so glad I am not attending this mess...

As I peruse the stories coming out of ShoWest I see news of so many films coming in 3-D, getting re-released in 3-D and blowing our minds in 3-D. Perhaps I am harping on this too much, but I just don't like the fact that filmmakers are placing so much emphasis on what ends up being an additional amount of visual presentation as opposed to simply focusing on story and character development. Looking back over the years I can't think of a single classic film that was presented in 3-D and — despite what studios are selling — this isn't anything new folks.

Coming out of ShoWest there is news Beauty and the Beast had its upcoming 3-D version teased in a 10 minute segment as the original computer files are being re-rendered for 3-D. Toy Story and Toy Story 2 are also on the 3-D radar and were originally intended to be released in October 2009 and February 2010 respectively, but will now get a double-feature debut on October 2, 2009 release in anticipation of the June 18, 2010 release of Toy Story 3, which — you guessed it — will be in 3-D.

We then find out the Tron 2 segment that was shown at Comic Con last year was shown once again, but this time in — you guessed it — 3-D. Then there was the press release sent out by Disney saying Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland will not only be released in 3-D in theaters, but also in IMAX 3-D on March 5, 2010.

Outside of any 3-D news it appears the only additional conversation comes out of a Warner Bros. presentation in which a trailer for Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes was shown and apparently it is quite comical and very much in true Ritchie fashion. If you are interested in attendee reactions you can go here, here, here, here or here.

Additionally, SlashFilm reports a picture of Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor was shown in new Terminator Salvation footage.

And finally, five minutes of footage from G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra was screened and this fangirl loved it and this fanboy said it was quite a cheesy let down.

"but I just don’t like the fact that filmmakers are placing so much emphasis on what ends up being an additional amount of visual presentation as opposed to simply focusing on story and character development."

Sou you don't mind the new star wars trilogy being done in 3D then? It's only proper good point were the visuals. (or was that too sarcastic?)

I can't wait for Sherlock Holmes to come out. I think Robert Downey Jr. is a remarkable actor and he is very gifted. I cannot imagine him making a terrible film because he cares so much about his movies and his fans. I hope it does contain action, adventure, mystery and the HUMOR everyone is complaining about. There are different types of humor. This movie probably contains, what I like to call, smart humor. I am excited to see this. I truly don't believe there is anything wrong with humor within a movie. Knowing it has everything in it makes me want to see it even more. It has Robert Downey Jr. in it, I believe he' ll be great! No one knows for sure, how or what the movie is like. There's noway to tell by seeing only 2 minutes of a trailer. I never go by what other's say or think anyway- I make my own mind up. Just knowing Robert Downey Jr. is in it and he's extremely talented let's me know that it is worth taking my family to go see.
