The talk of the morning revolves around the following look at Shailene Woodley (The Descendents) as we get our first look at her and her red hair on the set of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 where she'll play Mary Jane, the character last played by Kirsten Dunst in the Sam Raimi-directed trilogy.
I'm sure the folks at Sony are loving all the attention as yesterday's headline grabber featuring the new of the new Spider-Man suit dominated throughout most of the day, and if you missed it, you can click here and compare the new Spidey costume with the old.
Filming on The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is underway in New York for a May 2, 2014 release. I've included the synopsis below the picture and you can find more at Just Jared.
In The Amazing Spider-Man 2, for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can't come quickly enough. Peter hasn't forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen's father to protect her by staying away – but that's a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.
What a nice bit of casting news. Miss Woodley was simply spectacular in The Descendants, so I'm sure she'll be great as Mary Jane; hopefully, better than Kirsten Dunst at the least.
Thems the facts
Shailene Woodley is a busy busy girl. She has this, the lead in the young adult book adaptation, Divergent, which starts filming in April, and she's in the running for another YA Book adaptation, The Fault In Our Stars, along with Hailee Steinfeld. Obviously, she can't do ALL of those, so we'll see
She might be a good actress and all, but she's not very easy on the eyes, which defeats the purpose of Mary Jane's character. MJ is supposed to be the beautiful object of Peter's desires. I don't know exactly how to feel about her casting.
Agreed, I'd take a bolt of lightning from Electro to save Emma Watson over Shailene any day
You're saying this... after three movies with Dunst as MJ!?!? Well... personal taste apparently...
If only this film has a good, refreshing and inspired script, this could be a fantastic film. Hope Webb is up for it.
Definitely each to their own, personally, Dunst is streets ahead of Woodley for mine!
Going to have to disagree with you on the Shailene Woodley good-looking argument. Not to mention she showed a lot of talent in The Descendants.
This almost makes me care about this movie.
Dunst looked way better as a redhead, and smoking hot in Spider man 1-2 at least.
You're looking at an on-set pic guys... I mean, it's not graded, she probably hasn't had make-up applied... I'm sure she's going to look stunning in the film. Plus, MJ's no doubt supposed to be beautiful, but she's also supposed to be the girl next door. This girl has that in spades.
I thought Woodley deserved an Oscar nomination for "The Descendants" and look forward to seeing her in films beyond "Spider-Man 2." She's one of the young performers with genuine acting chops and I predict she'll become an important name very soon.
