'Sex and the City' Movie Will Happen
A director has been attached
Back in 2004 when HBO's "Sex and the City" came to a close there were rumors about a feature film adaptation, but after a while all that fell apart and nothing ever came of it. Now, MTV is reporting that things have changed and apparently Michael Patrick King is aboard to direct the movie adaptation.
Mario Cantone, who played Anthony Marantino on the show, told MTV, “Michael Patrick King was kind of the creative force behind that show, [and] he’s going to be writing and directing the movie… I’ve known him for 24 years. He was always very brilliant. I think he’s one of the best writers and directors in television. With him at the helm, it should be damn good.”
Word is that the film is tentatively scheduled to start filming this fall, but according to Cantone none of the stars have signed on as he admits, “They called me about my availability, but nothing’s negotiated… Hopefully if all the negotiations go well, it will happen in the fall. HBO’s just gotta give everybody what they want. It better get done cause I want to do it.”
Of course he wants to do it, he told MTV that his character plays a major role in the film, but without Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon to reprise the roles of Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda respectively the movie wouldn't have much of a chance.
