USA Today published the image you see above in a new article discussing the creation of the bleak world created in Cormac McCarthy's book "The Road".

The film adaptation is being directed by John Hillcoat (The Proposition) and stars Viggo Mortensen as The Man and Kodi Smit-McPhee as The Boy. It tells the story of a destroyed world inhabited by cannibals as one man and his son follow the road in hopes of something. In creating the film Hillcoat did not depend on CGI he went for practical. It seems the ashen world created in McCarthy's book is a lot like Pittsburgh.

"It's a beautiful place in fall with the colors changing," Hillcoat told USA Today. "But in winter, it can be very bleak. There are city blocks that are abandoned. The woods can be brutal. We didn't want to go the CGI world."

On top of shooting in Pittsburgh they also shot scenes in Katrina-ravaged New Orleans and on Mount St. Helens in Washington state for scenes of devastation. Hillcoat found abandoned coal fields, a deserted amusement park and an 8-mile stretch of closed freeway as locations.

On top of the image above there are also five more images, which are featured below. You can read the complete article here and see slighlty larger versions of the images here. I also did a much larger feature on the film after I finished reading the book right here.

The Road hits theaters on November 14 from Dimension Films.

I think I just had a tiny orgasm. I love this book. And I can't wait for this movie. Those pictures are amazing. They make me want to read the book again right now. I really hope the film does the book justice.

    :D

The book was fantastic and I'm confident the movie will be too. The cast looks great and I loved the direction in Proposition.

Loved the story of No Country for Old Men which I hear is very close to the novel, and I loved The Proposition, and I love Viggo Mortensen, so there's nothing holding me back from this one.

Hopefully this will be a major contender for Oscars, and Mortensen can have a good chance of bringing one home. God knows he's gone unappreciated for far too long (his nod last year was one of those "honor to be nominated" nods).
