Sunday night, following a rebroadcast of "Fringe", Fox previewed seven minutes from the upcoming flick The Day the Earth Stood Still starring Keanu Reeves and Jennifer Connelly due in theaters on December 12. The film is a remake of the 1951 classic sci-fi film about an alien visitor and his giant robot counterpart who visit Earth.

We have added a look at the footage just below and at about the 2:30 mark is exactly what we saw at Comic Con earlier (read here) and something I particularly enjoyed. Oh, I will warn you, the video is a smidge loud so you may want to turn down your speakers before hitting play.

Wasn't sure abt this one when I first heard of it. After seeing the clip, it seems quite interesting. Glad I havent seen the original (way too old for me), can escape the urge to compare now.

It's that kind of myopic view that gives the studios all the excuse they need to rachet down the quality of what they are putting out. Why bother with original visions and ideas? They can just remake everything that's come down the pike for their current target audience, an entire generation of lowbrows who wouldn't deign to watch any film that was made more than 10 years ago. Pity, because they are ignorantly and willfully denying themselves great stuff.

You get what you settle for, and you DESERVE Reeves as Klatuu.

This is what Independence Day should have been if it got rid for all of their dumb parts and production staff and have a more mature, darker tone.

I meant it as a compliment.

Well, this is definitely not the 1951 Michael Rennie TDTESS. This looks really good and I can hardly wait to see it. I hope it will be as good as the trailer seems to make it. Keanu Reeves was the perfect choice for the lead and I'll watch anything with Jon Hamm in it. Good to see him in something other than Mad Men. I loved the original TDTESS and watched it the first time in the 60's. I hope this new one doesn't disappoint.
