Second Trailer for Scorsese's 'Shutter Island' Washes Ashore
It was supposed to be in theaters today
The release of Martin Scorsese's Shutter Island is going to be an interesting one next February 19 as it was originally set to debut today. Once considered an Oscar contender, the adaptation of the Dennis Lehane novel will now potentially kick off a year-long Oscar campaign, satisfy as an early year blockbuster or end up proving there's a reason it was moved to a less-than-stellar calendar slot. Either way, you can't help but be interested.
Now Paramount is hoping to get you even more intrigued with the second full trailer for the film, which stars Mark Ruffalo as U.S. Marshal Chuck Aule, who travels with his new partner (DiCaprio) to the eponymous Massachusetts island in 1954. As they investigate the disappearance of a patient from a hospital for the criminally insane, they encounter a web of lies, a hurricane and a deadly inmate riot that leaves them trapped on the island.
You can check out the trailer directly below or in high definition at Apple. Once you're done with that you can get more information on the film right here.

Why did it have to get pushed? It looks great!
that's fricken robert de niro.
God, I wish I was seeing this today.
Looks like they cut a new trailer with only a few changes just so they could display the new release date of February 2010. Nothing changes though, still very excited to see the film, but the first trailer was better. That is one boatload of talent in a single film.
it's not deniro,
it's elias koteas.
looks so much like deniro, especially from frankenstein.
@Scott: Somehow I like this trailer a bit better. This one gives just enough hint of the trap that Dicaprio and Ruffalo seem to be falling into to have it make a little bit more sense and increase the intrique. That's just me.
I, too, wonder why the new date, Brad.
Ok, that looked frekin great!
That had me jumping outta my skin a couple of times… it looks freaking brilliant… love marty and leo teaming up… its a win win
@Scott: I agree. The first trailer was better.
I liked both trailers, and I'm very excited to see it. But I'm a little surprised they took out something about "From Director Martin Scorsese," or something to that effect. You'd think that would be something to leave in the trailer to get people's attention.
I saw a preview for this today while at the movies and I kept thinking "DeNiro must be somewhere in this movie" and I'm sure that was him when DeCaprio says "Let me see your face" and they show DeNiro. It also sounds like his voice when he says "Wouldn't you agree, when you see a monster, you must stop it". Sounds like the way DeNiro says his "S's" DeNiro all the way, I say!
It's Max von Sydow that says that line, GJU. I love Bob, and really wanted it to be him, lol…but I went frame by frame, and it is, indeed, Elias Koteas. Sad, but true!
