On the heels of premiering a second trailer for American Hustle yesterday, Sony has released a second trailer for yet another one of their Oscar hopefuls, that being George Clooney's Monuments Men, which takes a fictional (and by appearances, farsical) look at the true story of what the synopsis calls "the greatest treasure hunt in history".

Written by Clooney with Grant Heslov, The Monuments Men focuses on an unlikely World War II platoon, tasked by FDR with going into Germany to rescue artistic masterpieces from Nazi thieves and returning them to their rightful owners. Along for the ride, including Clooney, are Matt Damon, Bill Murray, John Goodman, Jean Dujardin, Bob Balaban, Cate Blanchett and more.

Monuments Men is slated for a December 18 release. Check out the new trailer below.

So all the rumor that the film not targeting Oscars turns out to be blatant lie. This film has For Your Consideration written all over it. Though I am still not convinced. It looks too fluffy to be taken seriously as a Wolrd War II drama, but I won't be surprised if it manages to bag 7-8 nominations including Best Picture.

I wonder how many times the words 'Art', 'Nazis' and 'Hitler' will be uttered in the actual movie.

This looks good, as the marketing team got smart and ditched the stupid song in the first trailer. However, I still think that it might be too safe in this day and age to actually win anything. It looks a little light.

The song sounds like Hans Zimmer's Time.

This one looks like it's pushing the drama pretty hard after the response to the first trailer. I'm guessing it will be more dramatic and the first trailer was just rough; I definitely don't expect something farcical or Ocean's-like. And yes, it should be a major player in the awards season if the quality is there.

Though this one and the first trailer are both cut kind of awkwardly, this looks like it'll be very entertaining and a big crowd pleaser.

It looks good, but I don't think I'll be rushing out to see it come December.

    Looks solid.

Meanwhile, someone saw Monuments Men in a test screening and has written a review. Going by his/her words, it seems the film is exactly what trailer suggests, which is the film lacks the heft required to win Best Picture, or even be seriously considered otherwise. Though he/she does mention that the movie will be a contender in technical categories. It's true that these test screening reviews should be taken with a pinch of salt, but anyways I don't have any high hopes with the film.

Hmmm very nice trailer, it's definitely on my watchlist and the cast has lots of very watchable people in it. i'll take it.

Yeah they're totally pushing for Oscar with that release date. It actually looks great, but I feel like it will most likely miss the mark with the Academy, even if it does have critical and commercial success. Think in the vein of 'The Town'---great reviews/box office success, but seemed to be the odd-man-out with the Oscars race. I think we may have a similar situation here.
