Sam Raimi Signs On To Direct 'World of Warcraft'
Expected to be his 'Spider-Man 4' follow-up
Variety is reporting Sam Raimi has signed on to direct a film adaptation of Blizzard's popular videogame "World of Warcraft" for Warner Bros., Legendary Pictures and The Dark Knight producer Charles Roven in the mix. The film is currently positioned to be Raimi's follow-up to Spider-Man 4, which is expected to get underway next year for a May 6, 2011 release. Raimi is expected to supervise the development of Warcraft while filming Spider-Man 4.
"World of Warcraft" is an online role-playing fantasy game chronicling a 25 year struggle between the Alliance (humans, dwarves, gnomes, and elves) and the Horde (orcs, tauren, trolls, and undead). The game has a huge following and requires a monthly fee for gamers to play. The game's most recent expansion, "Wrath of the Lich King," sold more than 2.8 million copies in the first day of release and more than 4 million its first month.
There is no word of writers or where they intend to take the story, and as someone that has never played the game and only remembers the most recent Ozzy Osbourne commercials for the game I have nothing more to say. Perhaps some of you that have played the game can enlighten the rest of us in the comments.

I'm not a big fan of movies based on videogames
Me neither but only because they are usually directed by Uwe Boll.
Whatever….borning shit….
This game is so massive and diverse, it cannot possibly be put into words. It would make lord of the rings, look like a tiny ant colony on your driveway. I personally do not believe it could be put into a movie. It's budget to be made correctly would easily beat AVATAR
It's my understanding that the movie won't actually be based upon the lore of WoW or utlitlize any actual WoW characters. It will feel like WoW and the races will be represented with the same basic horde/alliance hatred, but we won't see Thrall or anyone like that. They will utilize new heroes. This was decided so they have more flexibilty to do what they want.
Laterall down the road they may make other movies (depending on how this one goes) which may go more deeply into the lore.
Also as of BC there are 10 races total: Horde (orcs, tauren, trolls, undead and bloodelves) and Alliance (humans, dwarves, gnomes, nightelves, and draenei).
The best way they could start this out in my opinion would be explaining the story of Thrall and Jaena Proudmoore… then take it from there.
ARTHAS DUDE! Start from Arthas!
I love video game based movies, but a WoW movie does not appeal to me. The game bored me after 2 days.
