The first Runner, Runner trailer, the new film from The Lincoln Lawyer director Brad Furman starring Justin Timberlake and Ben Affleck, has just been released and is no longer spoiled by the Entertainment Tonight goons and their relentless voice over.

The film revolves around illegal gambling and was appropriately written by Rounders scribes Brian Koppelman and David Levien.

In Runner, Runner, Affleck plays a businessman who owns an offshore gambling operation finds his relationship with his protégé (Timberlake) reaching a boiling point. Gemma Arterton, Anthony Mackie and Ben Schwartz are among the list of co-stars.

20th Century Fox will release the film on September 27, which makes it a possible candidate for the Toronto Film Festival on top of having a chance at some possible Oscar nominations.

Give this first look trailer a peek below and let me know what you think.

    "Are those crocodiles?"

Sorry, but that line seemed really stupid to me. Ben Affleck looks like he can either go too crazy, but it might turn out fine in the end.

If recent history is a good indicator, Afleck will make a horrible followup to a huge Oscar winning movie. Also, am I still the only person who thinks Timberlake has zero leading man ability. He, at best, makes small roles interesting-not good, just interesting.

I bet this will be better than Gigli though

A lot of STDs are better than Gigli.

I really hope Affleck doesn't go back to the generic fare that made it impossible for him to get a job. He's come so far. Also, I think given the right material, Timberlake can be good. Thought he was good in Friends With Benefits.

Yeah, I second the notion that Timberlake shouldn't act any more. It's probably not a good sign that he seems like he's playing Justin Timberlake in every role he does.

Looks pretty good, doesn't look much like a huge Oscar contender though. I could definitely see Ben Affleck snagging a nom for this though.

    Sorry, can't stand timbarlake!

The only thing I can possibly see for this movie is supporting actor for Affleck. I thought that he looked good in the trailer, but in a crowded field, this is getting nada.

I think it looks good. Doesn't seem very Oscar-y, but will probably be fun.

Affleck rarely acts well in movies that he does not direct. He was solid in Hollywoodland and Company Men. Also, he has a track record of picking some horrible roles, other than the films he directs.

Timberlake is not really an actor... more of a pop star trying to become to a film star. He clearly has very limited range -- it's obvious even in this short trailer.

This looks boring and predictable.... it's release date of Sept 27 kind of tells you what studios are expecting.
