'Runner, Runner' International Poster

Does this one have any chance at Oscar?

I have Brad Furman's Runner, Runner in the lower ranks of many of my 2014 Oscar prediction categories after the trailer above seemed to sell a movie that would be more flashy and fun than something the Academy would necessarily go for. Do you think I'm off or does that sound about right?

The film stars Justin Timberlake, Ben Affleck and Gemma Arterton -- all three front-and-center on the new international poster seen below (via Empire). Written by Rounders scribes Brian Koppelman and David Levien. The story features Affleck as a businessman who owns an offshore gambling operation who finds his relationship with his protégé (Timberlake) reaching a boiling point. Anthony Mackie and Ben Schwartz co-star.

20th Century Fox will release the film on September 27, which makes it a possible candidate for the Toronto Film Festival on top of having a chance at some possible Oscar nominations.

I agree with you, it seems more like entertainment than an awards vehicle.

I like Anthony Mackie the best of the actors in the film. It always makes me a little sad that he has to play the supporting part when he's the one I'm most interested in watching.

I don't think this has any realistic shopt at Oscar nominations, but it doesn't really seem to be trying for them. I was a huge fan of Rounders during my poker-nerd days at university, so I'm excited to see this either way.
