Rumors and Teresa Palmer 'Prey' On 'The Dark Knight Rises'

Is this just a case of people putting one rumor up against the next?

The latest news from the The Dark Knight Rises rumor mill comes from Entertainment Weekly citing a website called ScriptFlags. The site heard from a supposed "PR Contact" that the new Batman film would follow the Batman comic issues referred to as "Prey," more specifically issues numbered 11 – 15 from the "Legend of the Dark Knight" series.

Being someone that doesn't read comics I have to give you the information straight from the source saying "Prey" was written by Doug Moench and is referred to as the unofficial follow-up to Frank Miller's "Batman: Year One" series. Also, by the sound of it, these rumors mesh with the previous rumor saying Tom Hardy would be playing Dr. Hugo Strange.

Here's how the site breaks the story down:

"Prey" centers itself around Batman being pursued by the deranged police psychiatrist… Doctor Hugo Strange. When a police officer Max Cort is sent to Strange for treatment for his hatred of vigilantes, Strange hypnotises Cort into becoming a costumed vigilante himself named Night Scourge in the hopes of bringing Batman out of hiding. Strange also convinces the mayor to prepare a special task force to capture Batman with Commissioner Gordon as its head. [...]

"Prey" features Lt. Gordon [Gary Oldman] finding his way in his new role as a Police Commissioner following the events of Frank Miller's "Year One," whilst trying to maintain his relationship with a Batman who's despised by cops and seen as a criminal [The Dark Knight's ending]. Enter Professor Hugo Strange, a police psychiatrist obsessed with Batman. "Prey" also features Catwoman…

Another rumor surrounding the production, which is said to begin in March 2011 for a July 20, 2012 release, is that Teresa Palmer (The Sorcerer's Apprentice) has attempted to throw her hat in the ring, telling MovieWeb, "I've definitely put the feelers out there with my agents and that would be something I would be really glad to have happen. I doubt I would be one of the actresses high up on Nolan's list. I think they are definitely going after woman with a much bigger profile than I."

The reason this comment gained traction is due to Palmer's one time association with WB's abandoned Justice League feature, of which she was attached to star as Talia al Ghul. So putting two-and-two together some are thinking she's campaigning for the same role in a different movie.

Of course, these are just rumors, and it seems a lot of people may just be blinding trying to tie one rumor to the next. Who knows when actual details will leak out.

I really doubt both rumors. One seems based on completely unreliable or unconfirmed sources, and another seems like wishful thinking on the part of an actress.

I mean is Tom Hardy the best actor to choose to play Prof. Strange, an older, hunchbacked and ugly intellectual? And is Hugo Strange even that well known or interesting of foe to be used in the final installment? Hell, is "Prey" that great or important of story to demand an adaptation?

This just seems like fanboys jumping onto a flimsy rumor and running with it.

    • I agree with all of your points and will like to add one more. I think Hugo Strange will not be in this film, chiefly because I suspect that Nolan will want a different kind of nemesis in this film, and Strange is too close to Scarecrow. Like Scarecrow, Strange is a respected, if eccentric, psychiatrist who is also crazed himself, and I feel that Nolan has already tapped this Victorian-era archetype in two previous films (three, if you count his interest in psychology in the Victorian-set "The Prestige"). Nolan will likely want to differentiate these villains from the previous films, which is likely why the psychotic, but brilliant, figure of The Riddler was not chosen for this feature.

Im all for it but just the fact that hugo doesn't seem like a big threat to batman as in action in the movie yeah could see him as a side dish like they did with two face and catwoman great but reliveing a nightmare of how she was brought out from the other movies scares me
