Robert Pattinson to Retire from Acting in 2010
It appears his acting fame may be short lived
In a strange twist of fate, Robert Pattinson has announced he will retire from acting following the fulfillment of his contract with Summit Entertainment and the completion of the Twilight Saga which will see the release of New Moon this November and Eclipse next June. When asked if he planned on returning for an adaptation of the fourth story in the famed Stephenie Meyer series, "Breaking Dawn," the actor said, "It will depend on the quality of the next two films and the demand of the Twilight fans."
The first Twilight film, released in November 2008, put Pattinson on the map as the film garnered over $190 million domestically and over $375 worldwide. Although Pattinson had already starred as Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire it was Twilight and the conviction of its fanbase that propelled him to instant stardom.
Pattinson also starred in a trio of smaller, independent films in 2008 including The Summer House, How to Be and Little Ashes, the latter of which will see a limited release on May 8 from Regent Releasing. In the film Pattinson plays Salvador Dali and he has already received some decent word-of-mouth for his performance.
Recently awarded the New Hollywood Award at the Hollywood Film Festival it comes as a shock that Pattinson would decide to end his acting career so abruptly, but according to the actor he has his sights set on other entertainment avenues.
"Acting was a passion of mine from an early age," he said, "but as I have grown older I have found other ways of expressing myself that appeal to me on a more personal level. I certainly hope this doesn't upset my fanbase as they have made me who I am, but who I am goes a bit deeper than simply being an actor."
Pattinson revealed his first goal was to get an album recorded after singing "Never Think" for the Twilight soundtrack.
"I never knew how much singing that one song would affect me," he said. "I was never sure if it should even be used, but it sort of became my jumping off point. I also sang three songs on the soundtrack for How to Be, which was a lot of fun and I think I just have so much more to share with the world through my music that I feel I would be a fool not to jump on it right away."
So it seems Pattinson may be leaving the world of acting, but he won't be leaving the spotlight. He also said the working title of his album is "A Love Song to Edward" based on a song he recently wrote while taking some downtime on the set of New Moon. To all the haters: If you don't like his movies, don't watch them. Noone's forcing you. There's a billion other stuff you can watch and do with yourself instead of bringing people down. Lighten up :)

He acts very well and i think it's important for people to recognize that.You would have to read the book to understand.People are so critical of him. Is it jealousy?because he was hired to portray a person who is gorgeous and perfect and he did a good job?he's not trying to steal your girlfriend, man. He just is a great actor.Get over it.

I for one agree with Katie, i was going to say the same thing. I can't see Breaking Dawn working if he isn't there to play Edward. I think Rob is VERY talented at singing and acting.I'm hoping to get to hear more of his music in the near future. The one that post negative thoughts about him,why don't you keep them to yourself.He's never said nor done anything to you. Well, Rob has said he would do Breaking Dawn depending on script and Demand of Fans – well, if Summit is smart, they'll release nothing without strict attention to it. We (adults) following the series love every bit of it – but our FAVORITE is BREAKING DAWN. So much happens there, Bella comes into her own in amazing form. The Twilight Universe has balance – but not without twists! I think Jacob, Edward and Bella have amazing outcomes in this film and No follower would rest until it was made. Rob of course is the only one to do it. I love his acting. I do want to see more of it – but respect his wish to follow his music – and I suspect he'll traverse back and forth between acting and music as time goes on. Rob will just have a much deserved break – I'll be surprised if Kristen and Taylor don't back off from it all as well for a bit – he knows that his afficianados will follow him regardless – I know I will. He's only just begun….

I like Robert…in the Harry Potter movies. I like his singing. But his acting in Twilight was…well, he just wasn't Edward to me. That's my opinion. Notice how I'm not stating it as fact.

I am passionate about what I do in life, and if singing really tweaks his boat, then all right. Dream, and aspire on…
But, seriosuly. His voice is just so whiny! Think an Eric Clapton moaning in one of his amazing songs and it's Robert. There are just so many other talented singers recognized or unrecognized that are a hundred times better!
I don't bring on judgement, but I have an opinion.
By the way, he can't really act (I truly ban his performance in Twilight, it sucks; he doesn't belong in this part, if he works in other films that aren't half as bad then his acting can be redeemable). However, taking an essence such as Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hanks, or Jodie Foster gives him absolutely no room to compare to, even if it's a teen drama (which I don't really like anyway). They've set a high bar in films, and he just doesn't follow it- Zac Efron does a better job at portraying his characters as hard as that is to say!
How can you compete with a teen idol who isn't even really known for his true self- *cough*- his name isn't Edward Cullen. It's just a character. No wonder he wants to escape from the limelight- all those girls confessing undying love and they don't even know him. Dramatic much; loving someone without knowing them is a little freaky. Especially when it's not the acting you just love.
All in all, he has a horrible, whiny voice, and really can't portray even the undead.
Sorry, but the truth hurts. Just stay away from Breaking Dawn (the book series was somewhat of a disaster anyway- a constant blur of a nonsense plot and unrealistic attributes that are in an actual reality. Such annoying concepts and absolutely no heart and soul. Just dying for the one you love in less then six months, deciding to spend the rest of forever with them, and jumping to a saddistic vampire hunting you down in the middle of nowhere- wow.), and revert to getting some more singing lessons.

I wish he would do more music, especially piano. even if this is not an honest report it is still something he may very well consider. I think music does touch people in a totally different way than acting. Acting is not really a creative process, it is expression of dialogue provided by others. Some people are very good at pretend and do it well while others are not. Spme actors are great and can take the viewer into a different world through the acting but this is rare. He is a good actor, this is not to undermine that at all I just feel music is truly the window into our heart and soul. To write and perform your own music and be able to express oneself from within while offering the listener an opportunity to experience feelings and emotions is in a class all it's own.

The entire idea of making the movies would be a total waste if Robert didn't finish it. We got a pretty good idea of what Edward looks like and if they use someone else in the final book, I just think all this was for nothing, I wouldn't even want to watch it then…..I think we're just used to the image of Edward now, don't change that. Because they leave so many things out in the movies, the books were better….Twilight was okay, we'll have to see about NEW MOON….

this is ridiculous. Rob Pattinson believe it or not is an excellent actor, and most everyone that hates his acting is guys. It's not him everyone is in love with, it's his character. If he didn't play the character well enough, people wouldn't love him. Which, proves that he is a good actor. He plays his character excellently in both the Twilight saga and Remember Me. If you don't like him because he is adored by tons of women around the world, get over yourself and deal with it. People can feel what they want to.

Persoonally I think Robert's an all right actor-for CERTAIN things. I think he may be a cool guy but in honesty I don't really like actors (meaning interested in). In Twilight I thought he did poorly (personally) however in Harry Potter he did good.(friends huge fans-can't help themselves)As an actor so so. As a person- I don't know because I don't KNOW him. But I think I like the emotion in some of his music. I like depth and darkness along with the love (it's not too lovey dovey) . But somewhat raw/depressed emotion has a greater impact on the reader/listener. For some odd reason sometimes saddness can be more moving.
The article was pretty good. Mabey add opinion. The emotion halps grab a reader as well as facts. Just mabe add some thoguhts/opinoins of YOUR OWN. (A person's true thoughts are usually better and mainly understandable.

I love Robert Pattinson, he is my favorite actor ever! I love what he did in twilight and new moon. I cant wait to go to the premier of eclipse on june 30!! its going to be awsome.. im so in love with his acting and music, he is so talented.. i wish i could have my own Robert Pattinson, or Edward Cullen.. either way im happy ^_^ but i hope he keeps on making movies and music, because he can have an amazing life if he keeps at it and does his best
