RMR: 'Inception' Plot, 'Green Lantern' Problems, 'Batman 3' in IMAX, 'Magneto' Future and More
Another rumor filled update including 'Cars 2' and 'Wanted 2'
If you want to ruin Christopher Nolan's hopes of keeping the plot to his upcoming Inception a secret click here, or you could just be patient and watch the wordless teaser again to the right.
Ryan Reynolds is set to star in Green Lantern for director Martin Campbell and Warner Bros., but Inside Film says, "Green Lantern's proposed Australian shoot is understood to be under threat after the rising Australian dollar has blown out production costs. Two other Hollywood productions (Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader and Don't Be Afraid of the Dark), which were secured by Queensland and Victoria earlier this year, have already begun filming." The film was looking at a November start for a June 17, 2011 release, but who knows what will happen now. The site also references Happy Feet 2 as in production. [Inside Film]
Next comes word from Ain't It Cool reporting Christopher Nolan's Batman 3 "could very well be FULLY shot in IMAX, not IMAX Digital – but the beautiful, stunning IMAX that we saw pieces of The Dark Knight in." AICN's Harry Knowles speculates the reason Nolan went from The Dark Knight to Inception "was possibly to create a few new IMAX cameras made to his specs." [AICN]
Speaking of Batman, the video to the right is the trailer for the upcoming Batman: Arkham Asylum videogame, which is in stores now for PlayStation 3 and XBox 360.
This is relatively old news, but Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov was talking Wanted 2 with MTV and once again talked about the resurrection of Angelina Jolie's Fox character saying, "If you remember from the first film, we have a recovery room with the baths of wax. We know how to do this, but it's still tough to do, because the bullet is inside her head… But there has to be a reason for her to come back… and we know the reason, I think we found the reason for her to come back." Screenwriter David Goyer (Blade, Batman Begins) opened his mouth about the X-Men Origins: Magneto film saying, "[Fox is] definitely looking into doing other X-Men spinoffs… I've been in touch with them. I'm sure that project will move forward in the next year or so." [MTV]
Those clever folks at The One Ring received word from one of their faithful from an all-night Lord of the Rings screening in which Ian McKellen was in attendance. The scooper told the site, "Currently at the all night screening at the BFI IMAX, London of Lord of the Rings. Ian McKellan dropped by earlier and revealed he is currently re-reading 'The Hobbit' and is expecting to be back in New Zealand in March. Apparently he also knows who they’re getting to play Bilbo and that he should be seeing the script within the next week." [The One Ring]

I love the way you tease gullible people with the inclusion of "Inception plot" in the title of the article. Seriously, I doubt we'll even get a hint of the plot before early next year. In fact, I hope we don't get any plot details for a long while. There is something wonderfully mysterious about how vague the teaser is, and it should stay that way for awhile to let what little we know sink in, and let the imagination go wild with possibilities.
Brad, question about the Inception part, because that is what I'm most interested in. Is the source reliable, and, if so, are the plot details considered "spoilers" or are they simply something you would read like in an IMDB plot summary? If you haven't read the article, then maybe I'll stay out too, I don't want to read something that will spoil the experience, but some info might be interesting.
@Danny: I have not read the article and yes it is a reliable source.
@Martian Army: No teasing, In Contention has the plot details if you want to read their article.
@Brad Brevet: I am so on the fence with this one. That teaser should be enough to hold me off for a little bit, and I respect Nolan's wishes that the plot be kept under wraps. Obviously, he would be the one to know what the best way to experience the film is.
Why make another Wanted? That movie was one of the worst I had ever seen!
@T: For me I would take what you said and say the exact opposite, I thought Wanted was a very enjoyable over the top type movies and and very excited for the 2nd one.
Yeah, I see no reason for making another "Wanted" movie… the first one was lame enough.
That would be awesome to see the next Batman film completely in IMAX, though. "The Dark Knight" was incredible to watch in that format.
@Brad Brevet: My apologies, I had no idea you were serious. On a second read, I see where you put the link to In Contention in the Inception paragraph; I must have just missed it the first time. I apologize if I offended anyone by saying they'd be gullible to think there were any details. That was my bad for not being thorough enough.
At any rate, I will not be clicking on that link. Inception is at the top of my most anticipated for 2010, and I don't want anything spoiled until a theatrical trailer.
And I am very excited about at Wanted sequel.
I think Cars 2 is a mistake. "Cars" was good, maybe even great, but it was by far the weakest on Pixar's outstanding slate. "Toy Story 3" will have much more promise. And I'd rather see "The Incredibles 2" or even "Ratatouille 2."
@T:
I do have to say that Wanted was not that good. Even though "Jumper" seemed to lack plot to an extreme (why is Samuel Jackson so crazy comes to mind), I thought it was much better of two movies that have similar set-ups and similar execution. However, I would not mind a sequel do they focus on Angelina Jolie (why else did anyone go see the movie?). I am more interested in "Jumper 2" which wil probably make the 1st one much better with more actual plot.
On other notes, I really liked "Cars", and would also look very foward to "The Incredibles 2." I always lean towards the less popular of their movies though.
Cars was good, but a notch or two (or 3) below Pixar's upper echelon hits. The reason why it's getting a sequel is that it is the merchandising champ over all of Pixar's and most of Disney's hits. This was probably done to cater to the mother ship (Disney). They give Pixar pretty much complete freedom in crafting original films, but I guess every few years they have to throw Disney a bone and release a sequel to a past hit. To Disney's credit, they are not feverishly rushing Pixar to do sequels and they let them take their time with it in getting a good story, plot, concept and stuff. Rival animation studios greenlight sequels before the weekend box office is even finalized and have the sequel already slated for release in 1-2yrs, which for the most part results in a mediocre product.
