Ridley Scott Finds Robin Hood's Merry Men
Are these the three actors you pictured in your head?
The Hollywood Reporter brings word Scott Grimes, Kevin Durand and Alan Doyle have joined the cast of Ridley Scott's Robin Hood as the group of adventurers best known as Robin Hood's Merry Men.
The film being released by Universal stars Russell Crowe in the lead role, which is being billed as a retelling of the origins of the key characters of the Robin Hood legend. Cate Blanchett is on board as Maid Marian in the project written by Brian Helgeland.
As for the trio making up the Merry Men, Durand will play Friar Tuck and is the most recognizable face to me from his role as one of the Tremor brothers in Smokin' Aces followed by a short stint on ABC's "Lost" in 2008 as Martin Keamy. He is also set to play Frederick J. Dukes (a.k.a. The Blob) in X-Men Origins: Wolverine opening May 1.
Next is Scott Grimes who will play Will Scarlet, a skilled swordsman and Hood's nephew. Grimes appears on NBC's "ER" and does voice work for Fox's "American Dad."
Finally, Alan Doyle will play Alan a Dayle, who in lore was a roving minstrel and needed help when his love was being forced to marry another man. Doyle's involvement was actually reprinted yesterday by SlashFilm who found the information at The National Post saying Doyle was aided in acquiring the role by Crowe who apparently is friends with the actor.
Robin Hood is shooting on a $130 million budget in the U.K. with Scott aiming for a PG-13 rating. Universal Pictures is releasing the film with an expected 2010 release date.

Kevin Durand has already been in a film with Russell Crowe. He was in the movie Mystery Alaska.Kevin is from my hometown,a litte Canadian place called Thunder Bay.
As for Alan Doyle he is also Canadian from the east coast. He is in a band called Great Big Sea which is very popular here in Canada. He and Russell Crowe became friends as Alan produces Russell's band.
Scott Grimes was also in Mystery, Alaska with Crowe and Durand. Kevin Durand also worked with Crowe in 2007's 3:10 to Yuma.
