Resurrecting 'Day of the Dead'

More Romero horror on the way.

It seems Land of the Dead will not be the last time George Romero's classic zombies take to the big screen as Emmett/Furla Films, a wholly owned subsidiary of Family Room Entertainment Corporation, recently announced in conjunction with Millennium Films partnered to produce and distribute a remake of the 1985 George Romero classic zombie pic, Day of the Dead. Emmett/Furla and NuImage recently teamed up on the classic horror remake, The Amityville Horror, which they set up at Dimension Films. To date, The Amityville Horror, which was distributed in the U.S. by MGM, has made over $60,000,000 at the box office.

Day of the Dead will be produced by Emmett/Furla Films' Randall Emmett and George Furla, along with Taurus Entertainment's James Dudelson, as well as Millennium Films' Avi Lerner and Boaz Davidson. Taurus' Robert Dudelson will executive produce the picture along with Emmett/Furla's M. Dal Walton, III, and Millennium Films' Trevor Short and Danny Dimbort. Paul Mason and Jordan Rush, who brought rights-holder Taurus Entertainment to Emmett/Furla Films, will also executive produce.

The original picture, which was written and directed by George A. Romero, follows a group of scientists and military personnel living in an underground bunker while the world above them is over-run with zombies. Unfortunately for the scientists who have been doing gruesome experiments on the un-dead as well as the military personnel who have been falling victim to their "experiments," the zombies have made their way into their protective bunker.

Emmett/Furla Films also recently announced in conjunction with Maverick Films and Integrated that they would be remaking Terror Train, with writer Ryan Eslinger.

Co-chairs of Family Room Entertainment Randall Emmett and George Furla stated: "We are exited about the potential of a Day of the Dead re-make and we are also enthusiastic about the marketplace's continued demand for new and exciting horror pictures."

The deal was negotiated on behalf of Taurus by George Braunstein, Esq., and by M. Dal Walton, III, on behalf of Emmett/Furla Films.
