Ratner Not Directing 'Escape from New York'
How about you just don't make this one
After watching the original 1981 Escape from New York I was scratching my head as to why they would even want, let alone try, and remake the movie. Originally Underworld helmer Len Wiseman was aboard to direct for New Line, but he was removed and rumored to have been replaced by Brett Ratner. Well, that ain't happening either of a scooper over at Ain't It Cool News is to believed, and the boys over there seem to take him at his word.
A scooper known as 'MonsterZero' tells the site, "[Ratner] was given an 'achievement in cinema' award at the Savannah Film Festival and I managed to ask him afterwards about it and he said that it was happening but not with him."
Now, putting aside the Savannah Film Festival's taste in who they give awards to aside, if this is true it means this remake is now floating in the wind and I hope the idea falls right into the garbage can, because it is 100-percent unnecessary, I don't care that Gerard Butler is aboard to star as Snake Plissken, a role originated by Kurt Russell – that doesn't mean squat.
