Raimi Returns to 'Evil Dead'
Original producers returning to cult hit.
Variety reported today that Spider-Man 2 director Sam Raimi and his original producing partners Rob Tapert and Bruce Campbell are reteaming to remake the cult hit film The Evil Dead through Raimi's Ghost House Pictures.
The original film was released back in 1981 and told the story of five twenty-something friends who discover a Book of the Dead while in a remote cabin. Unknowing to the kids, when an archaeologist's taped translation of the book's text is played it summons the sleeping demons that possess the pages.
Raimi will not be directing, so the film is looking for a helmer, nor was it mentioned if Bruce Campbell will be returning for the lead role as "Ash" Williams.
For a while now Raimi has been rumored to have been approached to bring Ash into the Freddy vs. Jason storyline, so who knows what chance that has with this remake now in place.
