Promo Trailer for Winterbottom's 'The Killer Inside Me'
Affleck's a cop, Alba's a prostitute and Hudson's a teacher
Thanks to The Playlist we have been made aware of a promotional trailer for Michael Winterbottom's The Killer Inside Me based on the Jim Thompson novel and starring Casey Affleck, Simon Baker, Kate Hudson, Jessica Alba, Elias Koteas, Bill Pullman and Ned Beatty.
Thompson, as many of you may already know co-wrote Stanley Kubrick's killer heist flick The Killing, which was part of my list of top ten heist films back in early 2008. This also isn't the first time "The Killer Inside Me" has been adapted for a feature film as Burt Kennedy directed a version in 1976 starring Stacy Keach and Susan Tyrrell.
The story centers on a West Texas sheriff (Affleck) and his downward spiral from a boring small-town cop into a ruthless, sociopathic murderer. The cast also includes Jessica Alba as a prostitute and Kate Hudson as the sheriff's schoolteacher girlfriend. Baker plays a county attorney looking to expose the sheriff as the killer.
The film does not yet have a distributor.

Why in the world did that need to be 6 minutes long?
@Dan Tralder: It's a promo trailer to help sell the film for distribution.
This looks terrific, Brad, and I didn't know a thing about it until now. Huge fan of Jim Thompson's novels and of these interesting film versions:
The Grifters
Coup de Torchon (based on 'Pop. 1280')
The Getaway (both adaptations badly botched)
After Dark, My Sweet (the same sort of rundown rural setting as we see here in The Killer Inside Me)
After Kubrick claimed most of the credit for The Killing screenplay almost entirely written by Thompson, the novelist let Kubrick bend him over again by taking top credit for Paths of Glory too.
His voice… I hate it.
could be this coming decade's American Psycho, only i see this being all over the academy's radar.
I feel for Affleck's character. I felt the same way toward Jessica Alba after Fantastic 4
This looks like both a major critical and box office success. The Stacy Keach film was s**t and did not come close to doing the book justice. This, on the other hand, looks like it could hit just the right mark with difficult psychological material to successfully transfer to the screen. Props to Winterbottom, Affleck, and Hudson for what looks to be a highlight for 2010.
I actually just heard about this from the article in Filmmaker and was excited to see it. After seeing the promo trailer I can't wait.
Please forgive the directness of this statement, but this movie is going to drive itself solely on having Jessica Alba's ass in it and they are going to try to keep people wondering as long as possible if her tits will be in it too. I like Casey Affleck, I hope that the film is worth something, but it just reminds me of all the tease jobs movies have made with Jessica Alba and then the movie lacks substance.
Looks good. I miss the delicious voice of Lou Ford (Affleck) from the novel: the humorous sadist whose method is try try to bore to death the people he talks to with mindless cliche. But this looks like a good alternate vision of the story.
I cannot wait to see this movie they filmed it in Oklahoma where i live and i watched them film this movie and got to meet Casey Affleck! It was an amazing experience!!!!
I think Miramax should pick up the film, right down their alleyway.
I think Michael Winterbottom is the best British director living or dead. The man can transform talent challenged B stars and turn them into A stars. I had the honor working with him on the set in Oklahoma City. Thank you M. Winterbottom.
It looks like a very interesting film, I want to see the entire thing, I hope a distribution company picks it up, we have been getting so many remakes its nice to see something brand new and fresh
the trailer looks…. interesting.. good or bad i don't know, but i do see a lot of capable actors there.
annoying thing is they're playing music from The Assassination of Jesse James… which featured.. Casey Affleck, which has great music, but not for the trailer.
1. Six minutes is too long for a trailer.
2. They basically told the entire movie.
3. It looks horrible – boring and badly acted (especially Jessica Alba).
worst. preview. ever.
That's because it's not a trailer- it's a promo reel for studios to look at and pick up the movie.
why on earth would I want to see a film where a woman is beaten more than once and then punched to death ? seems like a worrying film to me…..
Good gawd almighty. Waaaaaaaaaay too disturbing to watch. Sorry. Reminds me of a snuff film. But I suppose there are those among us who want to beat up women, but haven't found the opportunity, so this could serve as a means of satisfaction for them. Don't know the book, but it sounds like the ironic voice of the killer provides some relief from the relentlessly brutal action.
It could be another Clockwork Orange. This is a great trailer. I love Alba. She is the best non-verbal female actor in Hollywood, and she does pretty good with lines too. In that sense she is a female Clint Eastwood. This trailer could have been pitched effectively without a single word. The actors in the trailer are all convincing. I look forward to the movie.
I have seen the movie in Berlin. It is the most brutal and the most cruel movie I have ever seen. Trust me, after seeing this movie you won't appreciate Jessica Alba or Kate Hudson anymore. IT IS DISGUSTING AND INHUMANE!!!!
I agree this film will be disturbing and unsettling to watch but this film that is adapted from the novel- it is meant to show you into the mind of a madman (you have missed the gist). You surely must have known that this film would be masochistic and ultra violent by reading the reviews. Or did you walk into the cinema thinking this was going to be Alice in Wonderland?
I feel like I've just seen the whole movie…
I have high hopes for this film but it's been getting pretty horrible reviews.
Damn. That looks weird. But I might see it.
Oh yeah – let's continue perpetuating the myth that women like bad boys! We women love to beaten and raped, and we even put on lingerie for those special moments!
Exactly! And lest we forget, if a film depicts a female as a powerful force… either through intelligence or physical acumen… the reaction is, more than not, outrage from the common man. Which includes some women, who object to the heroine not being feminine enough. Case in point: G.I. Jane.
So basically we all just watched the entire film.
