The first trailer for Ridley Scott's Prometheus has arrived, giving you your first full look at what was once a prequel to Scott's classic 1979 film Alien but is reportedly now something all its own.

The synopsis suggests the film creates a "groundbreaking" mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.

The cast included Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Sean Harris, Kate Dickie, Rafe Spall, Logan Marshall-Green, Guy Pearce and Patrick Wilson and the film is set to hit theaters on June 8, 2012.

Give the trailer a watch below and leave your thoughts in the comments. While I only skimmed the trailer for the screen capture above, the title presentation along suggests this film may have closer ties to Alien than anyone is letting on.

And here's a look at the original Alien teaser for those interested...

  • gripmonster

Count me in as really, really excited.

  • Lex_Luthor

    Eff'ing sick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Solid teaser. From an aesthetic standpoint, this bears HUGE similarities to Alien. I'm excited, looks like it could be a solid piece of sci-fi... Then again, it really all rests with the screenwriting.

It is very 'Alien' for me too.

  • Khaira

This is THE Teaser !!....Solid Score & That Title Sequence Reminiscent of Alien....such fond memories rekindled....June cant come fast enough....

  • MWHollywood85

    Great score!

    • tim

great score, really? this is just Inception / Mind Heist modified to sound a little more alien, probably made by some dude on his computer.

      • Khaira

Disagree...but everyone 's entitled to their opinion...The Inception track u speak of is itself derived from pieces created much earlier.....

        • tim

of course, all music is derived from other music at some level, but Inception/Mind Heist was the first strong use in recent memory of the BOOM in trailers as a narrative device and now everyone just copies it.

          • 3ntropy

the boom sound was first introduced in district 9, if i recall correctly.

          • alex

IMO, if anything, it sounds like they are updating the original Alien trailer music. Check out both and listen for the similarities.

          • http://clothesthatkill.com x2501x

Hey, search youtube for the song "One-Eyed Man" by This Morn' Omina, which came out in 2003...I'm not sure if they were the ones who created that sound or not, but it goes back at least that far.

      • Dizzy

It is definitely a sound made to be similar to the original stuff from Alien. You compare both trailers and you hear white noise, similar bass sounds, a very similar high-pitched screeching noise as well.

To say this is copying inception ( a movie that came out more than 20 years after alien ) is asinine.

        • Khaira

Agree with Alex & Dizzy ....

  • Winchester

I didn't care for the music much.................but I liked that trailer. At the moment still my top choice for 2012.

  • MKing

Holy crap that was awesome. I cannot wait and I loved the references to Alien. I hope there is a brief glimpse of a facehugger in this too.

  • http://ropeofsilicon Juror eight

The visuals look both state of the art and retro. I liked it.

  • LJF

And that puts Prometheus and TDKR neck and neck for my most anticipated films of 2012, The Hobbit is second to them both.

  • Semper Vivus

Sure looks like a Alien prequel, with the scene with the Space Jockey coming out of the ground, for one, and acid-(for-blood?) being sprayed at another scene.

All in all, this will probably make big bucks worldover. Can't wait to see Prometheus.

What's more, my most anticipated movie of them all is Scott's upcoming sequel/prequel film within the "Blade Runner" world.

  • LJF

On a side note that Alien teaser still scares the shit out of me.

      You can say that again.

On a side note that Alien teaser still scares the shit out of me.

  • Digginit

That was pretty awesome for just a teaser.

Now if only I could forget that Alien 3 & 4 ever happened.

    • Winchester

That's actually easier to do than you might think! I achieved that state of mind years ago!

      • http://clothesthatkill.com x2501x

I wish the films had followed the story arc of the comic books, it would have been much better.

  • Jon

Oh my God this looks amazing!!!!!

  • Tiago SN

It seems HUGE! Can't wait \O/

  • http://www.seotechniques.eu dave

Too bad Sigourney Weaver won't be in it :(

  • Jay M. 5

This is what the horror genre needed to get back on its feet, Ridley Scott is a genius in this field of movies, there's no doubt that this film will break new ground. Im so exited to see this and Charlize Theron is in this?! Ahh i cant wait!!

  • Sal

there's also that arc that shows up in both trailers

  • JoshF

I love that Alien flavor. Looking forward to this.

  • http://engagetherant.com Engage the Rant

Damn, I am impressed. Can't wait!

  • Plot

The entire plot got leaked last summer. Judging from this trailer, it's 100% accurate. Read only if you want the film ruined.

    • bzzd

If that is the story, I'm cool with it, though I'll wish I hadn't ruined the experience by reading ahead.

  • Matt

This looks pretty great. I love the teaser, it definitely entices you without giving away any of the plot. And, visually, this looks stunning. Can't wait to see it!

  • Doug A

The original trailer still gives me the chills. What an amazingly terrifying movie that was!

  • maja

It's not really my type of movie but I have to say that that trailer was exceptional. One of the best I've seen all year.

    Can't wait! Love the music!

  • Mr Stark

All Hail Ridley Scott's triumphant return to science fiction!!!! So excited for this film.
