New 'Prometheus' Synopsis Suggests an Alien Explanation for Life on Earth?
Will the mysteries of the universe be explained?
Fox has updated their Facebook page for Ridley Scott's Prometheus with a new synopsis (via APN) in which a change in one particular aspect of the story opens up the doors to a whole new group of theories on what the film will be about.
Just the fact Scott is returning to the world he started with Alien is exciting enough, which is then made even more exciting when you consider the cast that includes Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Sean Harris, Rafe Spall, Guy Pearce, Ben Foster and Patrick Wilson and now we may be exploring the mysteries of the origin of mankind on Earth…
Here's the new synopsis:
Ridley Scott, director of Alien and Blade Runner, returns to the genre he helped define. With Prometheus, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.
Alien Prequel News has done an excellent amount of research and explores Greek mythology where the Titan known as Prometheus and his brother Epimetheus were given permission by the gods to create life on Earth.
They also explore a previous quote from Scott, which he gave while at CineEurope back in June where he said, "The (space) journey, metaphorically, is about a challenge to the gods. NASA and the Vatican agree that is almost mathematically impossible that we can be where we are today without there being a little help along the way. That's what we're looking at (in the film), at some of Eric von Daniken's ideas of how did we humans come about."
The site explores von Daniken's 1968 book "Chariots of the Gods" of which Wikipedia summarizes saying it "involves the hypothesis that the technologies and religions of many ancient civilizations were given to them by ancient astronauts who were welcomed as gods."
The explanation goes further as to interpret the drawing you see to the right from tomb of Mayan ruler Pakal as a possible comparison to the Space Jockey seen in Alien, a character Scott has already said would be central to the Prometheus story.
However, if you're upset this may trample on religious beliefs, the APN boys also find similarities between their theories and the story of Adam and Eve and how Eden was once referred to as Paradise, a one-time working title for Prometheus. It all sounds good enough to me and an incredibly fascinating mythology to explore. I honestly cannot wait to see this film.
Fox will release Prometheus on June 8, 2012.

From what I've understood so far is that there will be no aliens (as in the Ellen Ripley chasing kind) in this film.
But it is set in that universe but the only tie is the space jockey?
Is this to keep it for both a broader audience and alien fans interesting?
These alien influence ideas have been around for a long time and sometimes succesfully explored like in the Stargate universe.
For movies a great base, that combined with the alien universe and Ridely Scott? Should be very good.
So a more serious version of the Indiana Jones Crystal Skull plot? Strikes me as funny. "Well, we've ruled out the existence of God, and the lightning-zapping-mud-into-DNA theory turns out to be unsupportable crap, so . . . uh, yeah, must have been aliens." By the way, how do you phoneticize Noomi Rapace's name? No-OO-mee? Noo-mee? Ra-pace? Anybody know? Bugs me when I read her name.

Yes you're right, God is a fairytale and natural causes (lightning-zapping-mud-into-DNA haha good one) for the existence of life on earth is just silly so it must've been aliens….. but….. hang on……
So how did the aliens come to be?
(God got hit by lightning dropping his chemistry set with the resulting mess forming the exact right combination for alien DNA?)
