Producers Understand You'll Pay for Anything and Greenlight 'Voltron' Movie
Get ready for 'the personification of the human spirit'
Thanks to the worldwide success of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen producers Charles Roven, Richard Suckle and Steve Alexander of Atlas Entertainment have once again resurrected Voltron based on the 1980s cartoon series.
When we last heard of the proposed feature Max Makowski ("Queer Eye for the Straight Guy") was in negotiations to direct the film with a script from Justin Marks (Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li) telling a post-apocalyptic tale set in New York City and Mexico, where five survivors of an alien attack band together and end up piloting the five lion-shaped robots that combine and form the massive sword-wielding Voltron that helps battle Earth's invaders.
However, the new report from Steven Zeitchik at The Risky Bix Blog doesn't mention Makowski and it sounds like the Marks draft is out. The film is no longer set up at a studio, but Atlas does have an overall deal with Warner Bros., which I guess could be seen as a logical move to combat Paramount/DreamWorks' Transformers, but do we really need more brainless robot destruction?
Then again, the prospect of the film landing at Warner Bros. may be a good move. Warner has proven to take a little more care with their franchises and even risked a hefty sum on Zack Snyder's vision for Watchmen, which didn't exactly work out, but you can't say WB wasn't doing their very best to sell the product.
Joining the Atlas bunch as producers are Jason Netter of Kickstart Entertainment and World Events’ Ted Koplar. Koplar gives a ridiculous quote saying that "unlike other robotic action movies, Voltron is the personification of the human spirit, a quality that will set this movie apart." Oh boy, let's get in line, this one is going to blow us away!

Actually this one could work if Michael Bay stays 'beep!' away from it. At least we wont be hammered with awful humor every 2 seconds!
I'm sorry man but I'm losing hope in Hollywood's creativity. All they do is build on the success of past shows and movies. Is anyone else with me?
It'll never get the budget of transformers.
So we'll end up (and thats if we're lucky) with something inbetween transformers and power rangers.
If done right, i.e. without Michael Bay, this could work.
No matter what happens, I see that I will complain about the lack of character development and the creative bankruptcy in the film, and people will say I'm old and all they wanted to see was five robots turn into one big robot so they got what they wanted. And the circle of life continues to spin.
Why you gotta dis Voltron??? And, Warner has fubar'd enough projects. Superman Returns comes to mind instantly. Now, in 2013, they lose the rights to that character altogether because of their shady accounting magic. Nah, if it goes to WB, I'd be more concerned about it than if it landed anywhere other than Fox. WB ranks just above Fox on my $#!+ list.
there making amovie about Marbles! you should be thankful
Voltron is awesome, with a story better than Transformers, and much cooler characters. And yes, more giant robots will be cool, ones that are not in Terminator movies (yes, I did hate that part of Terminator Salvation that much).
I do want to punch Michael Bay for some of the real dumb comedy in Transformers, but for the sake of developed characters and more giant robots and explosions, bring on both Transformers 3 and Voltron.
If people are developing big robot franchises; what happened to evangelion?
@zyzygy: We're still working through the eighties. You're just going to have to wait another decade or so. I wish I still had my Voltron key.
This one is gonna be as screwed up as Dragonball:evolution.
why must hollywood ruin everthing that was ever any good. this like transformers,gi joe, nightmare on elm street, halloween to name just a few, and now Voltron. the movie makers truly have no orignal ideas so they will ruin any thing had/has any potental.
