POSTER: Borderland
A girl, a goat... a goat girl
Borderland was originally supposed to get its own release, but has now been added to After Dark's second Horrorfest. The film was inspired by true events of a kidnapping by a cult which practices human sacrifice as Ed, Henry and Phil, three American college grads, road-trip south of the border in pursuit of a fun-filled weekend of drinking and debauchery only to experience dismemberment and death.
These three fellas hook up with some Mexican girls and after a night of partying with Lupe and Valeria, Ed and Henry realize Phil never made it back to the hotel. When the police refuse to do anything, they soon learn they are dealing with powerful and dangerous people. No one will help, until an ex-cop on the trail of the cult joins forces with them in the manhunt for the cult and their friend. But it may prove to be too late for all of them.

Hmm…Drunk college kids in a foreign country that wind up getting tortured and murdered…sounds like Hostel to me. Lame!
Yeah, I think that is why it ended up as a part of After Dark's collection of films where it can actually sort of fit in as just a gory horror film as opposed to trying to stand out on its own. Also, explain the poster to me based on the synopsis please…
The only thing Hostel had was Tarantino. Gee I wonder if that had anything to do with anything? They tried to make you think he was the director! That is what I call lame! Didn't bother with the sequel. I don't know about you but I dont think I have ever seen a horror movie with a girl and a goat in Mexico. Count me in.
I rented Borderland and it is very reminiscent of Hostle and a 70s drive-in-movie called " Race with the Devil". The whole movie depends on the graphic scenes of mutilation to be memorable. The acting was not bad, the direction was competant but sometimes what you don't see makes more of an impact than an arm getting lopped. If your idea of horror is deranged, psychotic, criminally insane human beings that have somehow lost compassion for their fellow man then…enjoy. I give it a 4.
