		<title>RopeofSilicon Podcast: Episode 74</title>
		<itunes:author>Brad Brevet and Laremy Legel</itunes:author>
<itunes:subtitle>Reviewing 'Dark Shadows' and 'The Dictator'</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>Brad is heading to the Cannes Film Festival on Monday, May 14 and as a result this is probably going to be the last podcast until Friday, May 25. So what have we decided to do? We've decided to bring you the longest podcast to date. Coming in at one hour, 43 minutes and 20 seconds, this Friday edition podcast brings you everything from reviews of Dark Shadows and The Dictator to an embarrassing story of Brad's visit to the doctor.

We discuss the actors dropping out of Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained, the trailer for Gangster Squad (even though neither of us watched it), Laremy's confusion between baseball players and filmmakers and his bad mood that caused for an angry comment on last week's podcast. Then we move to listener questions, over/unders, Good Tweets and a bevvy of other knicks and knacks.</itunes:summary>

		<itunes:author>Brad Brevet and Laremy Legel</itunes:author>
		<itunes:subtitle>Summer Movie Preview and Box-Office Draft</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>Today Laremy and I are closing out the week with a Summer Movie Preview edition of the podcast in which we discuss our most anticipated films of the summer as well as do a ten film draft with both of us selecting movies based on how much money we'll think each will make against two-and-a-half times their budget. I was going to include the list with this podcast, but I think I'll hold off so it doesn't spoil it for those that would prefer to listen first. So going forward the list will be included with each new podcast, updated with new numbers and standings.

On top of that we have a few random topics early on, we get to a bunch of your questions and over/under suggestions and I include a few thoughts on Mel Gibson's Get the Gringo.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>On top of reviewing The Avengers, covering new DVD and Blu-ray releases, talking "Game of Thrones", answering listener questions, over/unders and everything else this latest episode of the RopeofSilicon podcast results in one giant therapy session as I get out all my frustrations and for that we apologize. <itunes:subtitle>'Iron Man 3' Casting, Superhero Box-Office Battles, Laremy's Irish Surroundings and More</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>A successful Tuesday edition of the podcast as Laremy comes to us from Dublin and we spend a little time discussing what was going on last week around Laremy in his Ireland castle environment before getting into Iron Man 3 casting, superhero box-office battles, new DVDs and Blu-rays, your questions, over/unders and I have a little story to share at the end that you won't be able to predict.

We pull all of this off in a matter of 82 solid minutes so I hope it makes up for Friday's truncated episode.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>If you're a new listener this might not be the best podcast to get started with as Laremy had to scour an island in Ireland for their one Internet connection and once he found it his surroundings were consistently compromised.

Nevertheless, we pushed on and talked a little about the recent departure of Disney head Rich Ross, the offer out to Francis Lawrence to direct Catching Fire, reviews of The Lucky One and Think Like a Man, over/unders and a brief look at the Cannes Film Festival field.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:subtitle>New DVDs and Blu-rays, 'Hunger Games' Goes for Five, Your Questions, Over/Under and More</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>Lean and mean is this week's Tuesday edition of the RopeofSilicon Podcast as we tackle several recent news items, several of your questions, over/unders and get it all done in just over 65 minutes. We did have one hiccup as Gmail failed me in the middle just as we were about to try a new segment, but that just increases the "anticipation" for when we finally get it figured out.

Among today's topics we take a look at the chances The Hunger Games has at winning five weekends at the box-office in a row, consider the effect of female attractiveness in romance movies, "Saturday Night Live" skits, 2Pac as a hologram, the Stanley Cup Playoffs, new DVDs and Blu-rays, over/unders, international vs. domestic release dates and much much more.</itunes:summary>

We also explore tonight's premiere of "The River", discuss video games, tell a story about an over-bearing security guy at our Act of Valor screening last night, play a little over/under, discuss the new DVD and Blu-ray releases and mix in a little bit of this and a little bit of that along the way. <itunes:subtitle>Awards Race, The Ending to 'The Grey', Over/Under, New DVDs and Blu-rays and Listener Questions</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>It's Tuesday and today's podcast is packed to the gills with awards talk, your questions, discussions on all the new DVD and Blu-rays hitting shelves today and the question we've been all wondering the answer to Is Laremy a man or is he a Muppet?

Things kick off with SAG awards talk and then I pulled several of the listener questions/topics from last Friday and yesterday's announcement of this week's prize for best listener question/topic, which, I feel I must remind you, are two posters for The Artist, one signed by the cast and director and the other signed by Uggie the dog. Those posters we will be giving away on Friday, but we are still taking questions so enter yours in the comments below as I have already started compiling those that have already been submitted.

After awards talk we explore the news that Matthew Vaughn is going to direct the sequel to X-Men: First Class the Laremy has a brief over/under game for me before we do our best to discuss the chatter over the ending to The Grey with the smallest number of spoilers possible. And I must say, I think we did a pretty good job, though no hard feelings if you skip that six-minute segment.

From there we discuss Sam Worthington's career, new DVDs and Blu-rays, Spotify and then a few more questions before closing the door on this 65-minute episode.</itunes:summary>

We also delve into a few listener topics before discussing both of our top ten lists for 2011 and this week's new DVD and Blu-ray releases before shutting things down with a long discussion on how both of us came to write about movies on the Internet. <itunes:summary>For anyone that believes Laremy and I agree too often, you will want to listen to our review of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 as we not only discuss the actual film, but discuss our approach to the film and it goes on for a LONG time - 37 minutes to be exact - but hopefully it doesn't get too uncomfortable as we metaphorically hug it out in the end. That Twilight, it sure brings out the passion.

Other than that, we discuss Alexander Payne's The Descendants and Happy Feet Two along with our opinions on the return of Ricky Gervais to host the 2012 Golden Globe Awards, the trailers for Mirror Mirror and Brave and even a little Tim Tebow and Natalie Wood.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>It's Friday, November 11, 2011 and on this 11/11/11, Laremy and I recorded our 25th episode of the RopeofSilicon podcast and despite doing our best to not watch trailers we discuss three that we saw recently including trailers for Act of Valor, John Carter and Snow White and the Huntsman. We also, obviously, discussed the hiring of Brian Grazer and Billy Crystal as new Oscar show producer and host respectively, as well as commented on recent reactions to Steven Spielberg's The Adventures of Tintin out of the AFI Fest and Liam Neeson's appearance on Ricky Gervais' new television show "Life's Too Short".

We closed out the podcast with a discussion about Adam Sandler since neither of us saw Jack and Jill, our review of Immortals and ended with a little more discussion regarding Clint Eastwood's J. Edgar, which we reviewed in full on Tuesday.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Welcome to our first Tuesday edition of the RopeofSilicon podcast as we are hoping to start doing this each week to not only bring you topics and reviews on Fridays for new and upcoming movies, but hopefully use Tuesday's DVD releases to talk about the new titles coming home as well as some older titles that don't usually make the list of topics.

This week, however, also brings a review of Clint Eastwood's J. Edgar, which hits limited theaters tomorrow, Wednesday November 9, and expands this weekend. There is also news regarding Brett Ratner stepping down as Oscar show producer, we bring you a few Oscar predictions now that we've seen J. Edgar and then we switch over into the new DVD and Blu-ray releases.</itunes:summary>

Kim Kardashian, Brett Ratner, Olivia Munn and a crazy Star Wars fan occupy the first three or so minutes before we move into Andy Serkis signing for the Rise of the Planet of the Apes sequel, Universal's president tells us what he really thinks of his movies, James Bond 23 was confirmed to be titled Skyfall as production begins and Terrence Malick is making two new films back-to-back in 2012.

After that, Amanda Seyfried occupies a few minutes as we move into conversation revolving around The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and our most anticipated films over the next couple of months. We wrap all of that up with reviews of Tower Heist and A Very Harold and Kumar 3D Christmas before signing off and sending you on your way.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:subtitle>We Trash 'Real Steel', Talk Tara Reid's 'American Reunion' Salary and Much More</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>Don't let my brain fart of an intro confuse you, even though I say this is the September 7 edition of the podcast it is in fact the October 7 edition as Laremy and I deliver 44 minutes of intense movie debate.

This week we obviously review the new film Real Steel while also talking about the joy of seeing great films on the big screen as I saw Cleopatra in 70mm and Tower Heist will make its way to Video on Demand at the price of $60. We also continue our discussiong regarding Human Centipede and just how exactly we decide what kind of controversial material we're willing to watch as I just received the Criterion Blu-ray edition of Salo, or the 120 Days of Sodom.

We also venture into a Fast and the Furious rumor that has Jason Statham maybe joining the cast as well as news Tara Reid was paid somewhere around $250,000 to star in American Reunion. Ouch.</itunes:summary>

We then close things down with a few brief comments on Tucker and Dale vs. Evil and Courageous, some box-office chatter and comment on the chances The Artist and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close may have in the Best Picture race. We get sidetracked here and there, but for the most part that's the gist of it all.</itunes:summary>

This week we have for you a podcast that runs one hour and 58 minutes as we just couldn't stop talking. We went rapid fire on topics beginning with a Toronto Film Festival wrap-up of sorts talking about our favorite films including Anonymous, Butter, The Oranges and Shame as well as a couple we didn't like so much such as Coriolanus and Twixt.

Next we moved to the new trailer for David Fincher's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (watch here) and J. Edgar (watch here) that debuted this week and then questioned why anyone would want to watch The Human Centipede II (Full Sequence). Then we went to the Star Wars Blu-rays and somehow ended up talking about "The X-Factor" and Mimic before finally getting into this week's new releases, including Abduction and a brief aside on Taylor Lautner's "talent", Machine Gun Preacher, Killer Elite and Moneyball and ending with some chatter on our favorite baseball movies.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>We're getting closer to that desired 30 minute mark as this week's episode goes just over 34 minutes as we briskly discuss several topics from this week beginning with a short tease from my interview with Martha Marcy May Marlene director Sean Durkin and move into discussion of the changes being made to the upcoming Star Wars Blu-rays, Disney's new "All Access" home entertainment option and the recently released trailer for The Hunger Games.

From that trailer discussion we move into Drive, which Laremy finally saw earlier this week and I saw for a second time, and Laremy is finally able to join me in chastising the trailers for the film, which really do spoil several important plot elements. We also discuss the fact Apollo 18 and Shark Night 3D were not screened for critics and then quickly discuss A Good Old Fashioned Orgy, which we both enjoyed.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>A little bit of a different podcast this week as we had to record it yesterday, before either of us saw Colombiana as I am currently taking a mini-vacation to Disneyland this weekend. So this week's podcast was recorded on Thursday for posting today, but that doesn't mean it isn't still one of the best podcasts ever! Okay, this one may be a little weak, but don't blame us we weren't given much to work with by way of new releases.

As for this week's new movies we talk about Our Idiot Brother, which both Laremy and I saw, and Don't be Afraid of the Dark, which only I saw, but I have a lot more things to say than I discussed in my review as I delve into spoiler territory at the latter end of the podcast, but don't worry, I am sure to let you know when I do in case you want to skip over it. We also discuss the Chaos Cinema topic I discussed earlier this week as well as the five choices Christian Bale is looking at after he completes work on The Dark Knight Rises.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:subtitle>Should Andy Serkis' Performance in 'Rise of the Apes' be Considered for an Oscar Nomination?</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>Now that Rise of the Planet of the Apes has been released the question is no longer will Andy Serkis be considered for an Oscar nomination as an actor, but should he. While there are plenty of factions out there that believe he should RopeofSilicon contributor Laremy Legel isn't so sure and I have to admit, while I would have no problem with the idea of Serkis receiving a nomination, the question of "should he?" is a different beast.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:subtitle>Stupid is as Stupid Does 'Larry Crowne,' 'Transformers 3' and then Some</itunes:subtitle>

This is followed up with reviews and conversation for Tom Hanks' Larry Crowne and Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Finally we talk a little box-office pertaining to Transformers 3 as well as the fact Super 8 just crossed the $100 million mark and any potential it may have for an Oscar nomination, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is about to cross the $1 billion mark worldwide and Bridesmaids just became Judd Apatow's highest grossing film as a producer or director.</itunes:summary>
