The Summer 2014 Movie Box-Office Draft competition involved both Brad and Laremy "drafting" ten films each in hopes of scoring the largest net total by taking a film's worldwide gross subtracting two-and-a-half-times the reported budget. The film must be released in May through August 2014. The draft took place on April 29, 2014 during the RopeofSilicon Podcast which you can listen to right here.

Listed above is all the most recent data as of this post. Budgetary information is not necessarily accurate and will most likely not be accurate until closer to or after each film's release.

The outro music on this episode is Clint Mansell's "In the Wall Side 2" courtesy of Death Waltz Recording Company.

Nice job guys...Laremy, Bugsy's bark made me jump a bit in my office chair...I'm glad I was not drinking coffee or my lawyers (imaginary) would be giving you a call...I would at least get a free signed copy of your next book out of you :)

  • Silrian

It's funny how it's the bonus episodes that are required to be paid for, as I think the term bonus implies something free.XD

Brad, are you going to separate listener requested topic and/or games submissions for free and premium podcasts? Or is anything listed here now gonna get into tuesdays free one? Because otherwise free listeners might never actually hear their comments back, so it seems logical to me that things listed underneath the premium podcast will be dealt with in the next premium one... Maybe there's also something different to be done with premium content submissions.

Also, is that idea of you guys doing listener requested film reviews of any time (so including older films) still a possible new thing for the premium pods? Cause I'd love to hear you guys review films that aren't recent. What I'm saying is I want my Batman & Robin review...

I was just wondering whether you had any of this set in silicon yet?

    • http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/ Brad Brevet

We won't be separating, we'll look here for questions and games for the next episode and so on.

As for extra stuff, give us a couple weeks and we'll get that all figured out, right now Laremy will be going on vacation shortly so come the end of the month we'll know more.

  • Justin Golding

Great podcast guys! We had a guest spot from Kevin, we had some Bugsy, and we also saw the return of War Horse.

You can buy the one about the wives being guests on the pod. They were on way way back and they did so well that they've never been back since.

  • http://imqwerty.wordpress.com/ Jordan B.

After hearing your brief discussion on Locke, I would really enjoy hearing more of what you two have to say about the film (spoiler-type stuff, i.e. plot points, themes, etc.) in the form of a bonus episode. Not saying, just saying.

  • robotsrule

Saw Spiderman at a matinee. Only paid $7.50 So didn't feel too badly about how forgettable it is. I sort of felt bad for Electro. If you really look at his whole story, he was kind of a victim of circumstance and was never really a bad guy. He was also the only part of the story that was remotely intense or ominous and created some stakes. I think they would have had a better movie if they had left the Green Goblin stuff for the next one, and spent more time on Electro actually wreaking some havoc on a larger scale. I know it's a PG13 but what if Electro had actually brought down some planes and buildings and not just knock out a power grid? What if he actually became powerful enough to threaten something like a global power outage? Maybe like Kevin said the movie just wasn't made for me. I like my Summer movies a little more dystopian and frightening so hopefully Apes and Godzilla will give me some of that.

Do the two of you feel that THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 had a disappointing opening weekend? On my blog last night, I wrote a 900 word post about it and came to quite a conclusion: TASM2 sold about half as many tickets as SPIDER-MAN 3 did in its opening weekend 7 years ago. This also appears to confirm what you have been saying for months, if not years: Hollywood is segmenting the audience more and more with every movie. Your thoughts? [AlmostFilmCritic]

Do you think there's a difference between writing a positive review and recommending someone see a movie? I rate movies on a five star scale and I feel that a 3 star review says a movie is fine to watch on cable in a few years. But I believe a recommendation is reserved for a 4 star or higher rating. What letter grade would you consider to be a "recommendation"? [AlmostFilmCritic]
