Pedro and Shaggy Have an 'American Summer'
New comedy for niche comedians
Let's be honest, Efren Ramirez will pretty much always be known for his role as Pedro in Napoleon Dynamite and Mattew Lillard as Stu from Scream or Scooby-Doo's Shaggy. Either way, the chance of me being interested in anything they do in the future is slim.
So, with that said, I bring you news of the two teaming for the comedy American Summer, which is about a pool boy and gardener who take over a Beverly Hills mansion and become neighborhood pimps.
Wow! That is an original idea and a multi-million dollar one if I ever heard one.
Lillard plays a pool boy who has managed to convince his parents he's attending Harvard. After his apartment complex undergoes termite fumigation, he moves with a pretty escort/neighbor and a young friend into an empty mansion where he works and soon stumbles into the world's oldest profession. Ramirez plays the next-door gardener called in as "the muscle" of the operation.
I am already in line for this winner…

This film is getting a Sept. 30 release date. I had a chance to view it, and I have to say, it is pretty damn funny! I found myself laughing loudly, much more than in some bigger budget comedies. Yes, it's silly and outrageous but that is what makes the film fun. The film doesn't pretend to be anything other than what it is: a straightforward, fratboy comedy with laughs, girls, booze and a Hollywood mansion. You actually come to care about the lead characters and the film has heart. Check it out!
This movie was so funny!! Mathew Lillard, Efren Ramirez, Tom Arnold, Brett Davern and Robert Davi helped to make this a comedy cult classic! Loads of hot chicks, (Rachelle Lefevre, Sheena Lee…), how can you complain about hot chicks??
The movie had some great writing, tons of one liners and plenty of hilarious cameo appearances by George Takei and Tom Arnold!
My favorite scene is the statue scene with Brett Davern by the pool…pure comedy genius!!!!
I have already seen it three times on PPV!!!!
Jeff, couldn't agree more, this film was frackin' funny! Standouts for me were Matt Lillard, Rachelle Lefevre, Tom Arnold and WOOOO, Sheena Lee, Simona Fusco and there was the blonde in leather, Heather something (I'll have to re-watch just to get her name), these ladies were beyond hot. Loved this movie! Thank God for Pay-per-View. When's the DVD?
The LA premiere was last Wed. and the film was a rockin hit! This is just one super funny, wild time of a movie. You will want to run and see this film, but you won't have to run far. It's playing ON DEMAND so just click it and watch.
If you loved the L.A. premiere of THE POOL BOYS, Rick, then you'll be excited to know that the Blu-Ray is out. Just saw it on iTunes; you can also rent it there, which I had no idea you could do. And it's on Amazon. Totally amazing, the film looks really good. Still the funniest film of 2011.
